Fast Track Welders Honored
Ten graduates of Lake Superior College’s 12-week Fast Track Welding training course were honored with a graduation celebration on Wednesday, August 6.
The welding program was offered through SOAR Career Solutions and was made financially possible through a grant from the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership. The program was designed to fill a need for potential upcoming manufacturing positions in the Twin Ports by providing free training for 10 people who qualified after a rigorous screening process set by SOAR.
“This program has been wonderful and Lake Superior College has been a great partner with us,” said Rebecca Ellenson, executive director of SOAR. “Because of this collaboration, we’ll be able to fill an upcoming need for skilled laborers, in turn providing these students with a steady living wage job.”
Instructor Randy Washenesky (far left in above group photo) couldn’t say enough good things about his students.
“From day one, I’ve been really impressed with these guys,” he said. “Some of these guys have been, well, down on their luck – some of them lost their jobs and have been out of work. And they still all came in with a full head of steam. Each one of them has an amazing work ethic, which made my job easy. I’m really proud of all of them.”
