International Women’s Day Celebration
LSC will host an International Women’s Day event on Tuesday, March 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Speakers, storytelling, international foods, information tables, and a discussion on global community will be featured. The event is $5 per person; students are free.
“The purpose of the event is to highlight what we can do as individuals to promote and support educational efforts in developing countries,”? explained Nancy Schumacher, conference coordinator. “We want to let our community know how each of us can help as volunteers, contributors, or citizen ambassadors and how we can support educational efforts affecting the lives of women and families.”?
A book donation drop box for the Books for Africa project will be available. The program includes:

“7 p.m. Panel discussion with Tracy Bockbrader, a Carlton High School teacher who recently taught chemistry at an orphanage school in Tanzania; Michele Keane and Tim Benson, coordinators of LSC’s Mexico Abroad Service Learning Project which combines language and cultural immersion with service learning for college students through an orphanage in Oaxaca; Beth Magomolla, who helps develop micro businesses in Tanzania; and Cherie Hamilton, a painter and fiber artist and LSC faculty member who has lived and worked in Brazil, Portugal, and Hawaii where she studied Polynesian dance.
“Each panelist will also have a table for the evening highlighting their international work.

The event is sponsored by the LSC Alumni Office in partnership with the LSC InterCultural Center, Diversity Committee, and the American Association of University Women, Duluth Branch.
