The Lake Superior College Writers’ Series — Express Yourself!
This year’s Lake Superior College Writers’ Series includes four workshops. Students and community members are invited to attend any or all of the four workshops. Refreshments will be provided.
Each workshop will explain the artist’s way of creating his or her work. In the workshop, artists will give participants direction and opportunity to generate their own ideas and work. Then there will be a reading, performance, or sharing of work related to each workshop which will be open to the public.
The five local artists and the meetings times are listed below.
Poet Ellie Schoenfeld
Workshop 5:45-6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, room E2410. Readings 7-7:45 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, room S2986.
In her workshop, Schoenfeld will share her poetry and guide participants into methods of generating ideas for their own poetry writing. At the readings, Ellie and workshop participants will share their work.
Poet Bill DeRoche
Workshop 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, room E2148. Readings 12-1 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, room S2986.
In his workshop, DeRoche will share his creative writing experiences and teach participants to use creative writing to develop their own poems. At the readings, Bill and workshop participants will share their work.
Writer/Blogger Carolyn Colburn
Workshop from 1-2:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, in room W2646. Blog Sharing, 1-2 p.m., Tuesday, April 8 in room W2646.
In her workshop, Colburn will teach students how they can use blogs and technology to generate and share their creative writing. Instructions will be available for those students who have limited experience with the use of blogs to introduce them to the possibility of creative blogging.
Songwriters and performers Mary Lou Williams and Dave Winchester
Workshop 3-4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, in room W1650 Performance 3-4 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, in room W1650.
In their workshop, Williams and Winchester will demonstrate how they collaborate to write and perform their original work and teach students how to collaborate to discover how words, music and ideas form works of art. At the performance, the artists and workshop participants will share their work.
