Lake Superior College has named Hanna Erpestad Interim Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She will administer and lead the college’s Liberal Arts and Science Division, supervising more than 100 full and part-time faculty members. Roxanne MacFarlane has been hired to serve as the new Health Services Coordinator. Roxanne has a B.A. degree in Health Education/Community Health and has served as the Staff Health Educator at Riverwood Healthcare Center for the past few years. She has extensive experience in organizing events and developing health education programming.

As classes were starting this morning, Lake Superior College welcomed its second largest first day student group ever. Headcount, the total number of students enrolled, as of the first day of class, was 4,007, which is up about 2.7% over the first day of Fall 2006.

In fall of 2008, Lake Superior College students will have an opportunity to study for a semester at the renowned Universidad de las Américas in Puebla, México. Students will enroll in six credits through Lake Superior College and nine credits of language/culture courses at the UDLA, including a service learning component.

Lake Superior College will offer a Mexico Learning Community during spring semester. All students, faculty/staff, and community members are invited to participate in the semester-long program. After riding 11,500 miles to raise scholarship money since 2002, Robert Erickson is still not satisfied. He will begin his sixth annual 2,300-mile bicycle tour Monday to raise money and public support for part-time students who attend the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
