Classification- My fear of flying makes it hard for me to travel by air.

Cause/Effect- When I take dramamine I can fly because it helps to relieve the fear and I relax.

Argument- I should never fly, unless I take dramamine.

On Compassion

Filed under: Uncategorized — vavegar @ 4:04 pm

I chose this quote from the essay, because it is so powerful

Compassion is not a character trait like a sunny disposition. It must be learned, and it is learned by having adversity at our windows, coming through the gates of our yards, the walls of our towns, adversity that becomes so familiar that we begin to identify and empathize with it.

I believe this is important in the essay, because the writer went back and forth about “why people with would help people without”. She had the reader feel  that it was just to get them out of the way, -and then she had the reader wonder if it was compassion.

The writers thesis is ” was it fear or compassion that motivated the gift?’

This essay made me think, why do I help others?   When I was younger I was taught to help others in need. My family had a lot of compassion and understood what it was like to go without. We did not have alot, so we  in turn just tried to help others when we could. I learned that even if you have just alittle you can share it with someone who has nothing.

War

Imposing a draft on the military I served in would harm it grievously for years.

I believe this statement is his thesis statement. It also got my attention.

He believes that the draft would dummy down the military.

Because he believes it takes time to become a proffesional in the military, and that you train and then train some more. He also believes it would be a direct diservice to the men and women in the military to have a draft. He blames the Congress and Pentagon for no money to expand the force. He states that not all women and men were meant to pick up a sword nor should they be forced to do so, but we owe our support to those who do.

My First Conk

This was my first really big step toward self-degradation

I chose this statement because it struck a cord with me. It also seems to me to be his thesis statement. It supports all of the crazy things he and his friend did in the essay to change their appearance.(went to get supplies, waited for the hair to be the right length, saved money on future conking. He goes on to say how he literally burned his flesh, and how he did it for years after. He really wanted to fit in and have hair like a white person. He then concludes his story with being angry because he did those things. It is a very strong message.

CSI 1106

* woman in photo smiling, not frazzled

*woman dry

*woman holding keys, and water bottle, wearing sunglasses

*Sun is shining

*car door open

*both car and boat are damaged

*safety parking guard has been moved forward

*boat rope on dock

* boat does not have bumper guards out for docking

* no emergency vehichles

* looks like no injuries to anyone

* woman has what looks like a wedding ring on her left ring finger

conclusion:

Assuming the woman in the photo was driving. I believe she stopped the car at the parking spot,  put on her sunglasses, and picked up  her water bottle off the floor, grabbed her trunk keys off her quick release key chain in the ignition.( so she could grab her bag from  the trunk) in her hurried, haste to join her waiting husband on their boat  she left the car runnig in gear. As she got out of the car it started to roll forward, over the safety parking guard, into  their  boat and pushed it out into the water. The car hooked on the dock and stopped before it plunged into the water. The woman is looking at the camera in relief because no one got hurt, and smiling because she never really liked boating, or the car.

My Uncle Mike

Filed under: Uncategorized — vavegar @ 9:17 pm

I would like to introduce you to my Uncle Mike. He was born Milton Paul Roth, March 3, 1926, and  If I am doing my math correct that means he is 81 years young.

He has served in the military during 3 wars, Lived through 2 bouts with cancer, and has a mind as sharp as a tack. He is not affraid to tell you what he thinks. He has earned that right, and he uses it often.

I am not sure what area I am going to write about.  His life is very interesting. I am working on writing about his life as a military man? in the early 1940’s to 1966? there is so much information. It is hard to make a decision. I hope we can decide on my next visit.

Grandpa

Filed under: Uncategorized — vavegar @ 10:37 pm

Olaf Carlson. A good swedish name. That was my grandpa’s name. He was the best man I have ever known. He was a kind, gentle, intelegent, loving man. He knew how to do everything. He was amazing. He loved his family, and he loved this country. He was so proud to live here in the USA.

One thing I will never experience that he did…  To travel from  Sweden to the USA by ship for days. Not to know anyone. Not to  know if you were ever going to see your family again. Not to  speak English. I don’t think the world will ever be like that again. The way we travel by Jet. We can e-mail or call  in seconds(to someone who lives in Sweden) I will never experince his way of traveling again.

The Truth About M&M’s

Filed under: Uncategorized — vavegar @ 10:25 pm

Unlike Plains, Peanuts have something buried within them.

Ok so I am a Plain…. But I reall y want to be a Peanut…

I don’t believe I will ever look at an M&M the same ever again. I use to just pick the green ones:0)

Anyways I have been hit by the M&M monster. And just so you know I am not fond of The Simpsons either.  I will however say as corny as the story is it really makes you think. ( or at least it made me think)

I really need to challenge myself on this writing thing. I have this fear thing about it and I must overcome!

Maybe I need to watch The Simpsons and eat Peanut M&M’s.

The Purpose Of Education

Filed under: Uncategorized — vavegar @ 5:57 pm

The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but no morals.

I chose this statement because it stood out to me. Morals are something that we are taught. They are the little subconscious voice that tells us yes we should, or no we shouldn’t.   To be educated without being taught  morals. I believe then we are really scary individuals. We then get to make decisions based on what we know, not what is right. I believe that decisions made on education only would be self loathing. The outcome of those decisions could be harmful.

I love Dr. King.  He was trying to say , “yes we need an  education”, but we also need people to teach beyond the textbook. We need to learn  love and respect . He was a brilliant man.

Desecration? Dedication!

Filed under: Uncategorized — vavegar @ 10:20 pm

All these people want is what we hetero types take for granted:

We the people, does that not include all the people?  The issue of marriage is not any different then anything else. Marriage is a life time commitment between two people. It should be for all of us. In order to be a part of marriage,  We need to know  what true commitment, love and respect is, that does not mean we have to be of certain sexuality.  To love someone enough to take care of them in sickness and in health(without running for the hills) . To death due us part. That is another powerful statement. A statement we say to someone we will love forever.  It should never matter what they look like or their sexuality. The institute of marriage needs to be a loving place where our children (however God chooses to give them to us)can call home.
