Just another Blog.lsc.edu weblog

Today I ran 8 miles.  My time was 1:02.40.  I didn’t feel my best on this run, I struggled.

My route was mainly flat.  I did a four mile loop twice.  On the first 4 miles I did 1 mile easy 1 mile race pace 1 mile easy last mile race pace.  The second time around the loop I tried to run race pace the whole time, but on the last 1 1/2 I got pretty tired.

My goal was to try for a negative split, and I got one, but not by much.  My first 4 was a 31.29 and my second one was a 31.11

I had some strong head winds.  I had eaten chinese food for lunch and it did not settle well for me on my run.  I’ve decieded NEVER to eat chinese food again before running.  My gut was not happy with me!!

From now until the race, run with the kids twice a week for motivation and to get a fast run in and don’t time yourself on the rest of your runs. You have been running long enough, you know your body. In the last month, it is time to trust and run by how you feel. Every run this week that you did that, you felt great and confident! Plus, you need to do that in the half. In a race that long, you totally have to go by how your body feels–there is no picking it up when you can’t. The only value of a watch is to keep you under the control the first 5 miles. After that, you have to go by your gut instincts anyway. Keep running strong.
