Well, it is really good that the doc does not think your hip problem is caused by a bone injury in the pelvis and the strengthing will help. I am glad you got into see someone. I was worried because it has just gone on too long and I was a bit concerned it might be a bone issue. Keep taking care of yourself.

Hi,

It is encouraging that the hip comes and goes. To me that suggests it is a soft tissue injury rather than a stress fracture some place in the pelvis. Keep to those soft surfaces. You know you can run the half, you need to get there healthly though. Even soft tissue stuff though can become chronic if you don't take care of it. Is it possible for you to go see a doc or PT? It just seems like this has been going on long enough now that you should treat it.

Dang! That hip thing is still really an issue. Have you considered getting it looked at. I have some theories. It might be something to do with your stride or it could be inflammation in your pubic symphisis. I think it is time to see somebody. It looks like it hurts you all the time now. I know health insurance is an issue for some students. I have some ideas about folks (physical therapists) you could go to who work for the hospitals but also work on their own. The cost isn't too bad--50-60 for an hour. I can give you numbers if you are interested. I don't think you can keep this up or you will end up with a really serious and lasting injury.

It looks like the training is going great. Keep taking care of the hip--don't do anything drastic. I think running on the dirt is a good idea. I always do that when I can. If you are still feeling good, you can try to add the speed and pace running in slowly. But only do half of the "quality" stuff the first workout. So if I say 8 strides, do 4 to start. If I say 30 mins pace run, do 15-20 to see how it goes.

So where would I find this lsc training clinic? My hip hurts right around where my leg meets my hip, like the socket I guess.

From the looks of your log, the hard stuff is definitely causing the hip to get worse. I think you should run easy, on soft surfaces, on flat courses until this resolves itself. As far as the yoga and cross training stuff, don't do anything there that hurts your hip. Are you icing? Taking an anti-inflamatory? Can you get into for a sports massage or a PT. If running really easy is still aggrevating it, take a few days off. If it still hurts bythe beginning of next week, you may need to see a specialist.

How is the calf doing now? When you run on the lakewalk, try to run in the dirt where it is smooth along the side of the path. It will be good for you to hit the trails once they dry up to avoid pounding. I'm glad to hear you are so good with your yoga. It is suppose to be very complementary to running.

Have you considered going to the lsc training clinic? I guess they have a clinic for students. Where is the hip hurting? Can you attribute it to a certain day--a strain?
