Chapter six was about news stories. i thought it was really helpful because it was full of interesting pieces and useful examples. i especially liked the section on photojournalism because of the examples. The brief section on “Understanding News Stories” was probably the most helpful. The questions that were asked under “Newsworthiness” were key points that i think everyone should learn, especially if you are to be writing a news story. The chapter also talked about objectivity, which is also really important for writers to become aware of because it is so easy to write stories from the “I” perspective, which leaves you with an extremely biased piece and potentially not credible piece of writing.
I also thought the part on research paths was good. In this day and age people are way too quick to use information that they google off of the internet, not realizing that everything that you get off of the internet is not always 100% true, especially if it is a .com. I think it is good to be aware of what a primary and secondary source is and how to locate other documents that would assist you in drafting a piece of writing.
All in all i thought the chapter was easy to understand and helpful, and above all, not a complete waste of time.
