Well again i have been pretty busy to blog but the weeks have calmed down. My sister graduated and we had the grad party and its all over with now. I have kept with the running though. The diet kind of sliped with the grad party and all the family around and all the food. How can you resist awesome food? I got another long run in. I ran from hibbing to chisholm. So from my house it was about 10 miles. I was bumbed that i couldn’t make it to th “dress rehersal” for the marathon because i bet it helped out alot. On the week days i ussually run about 4-5 miles but i have stopped taking the protien (which is very stupid) and i have been feeling weaker during my runs. It is amazing what that suff can do. So i am going to start taking it again because i feel so much better. Will the calcium make my knees stronger? I do drink alot of milk and i take tums every now and then that have calcium in them or would it still be good for me to take that calcium pill? another question i have. I heard that it is good to drink milk before you run. is that true? Well i am feeling way more prapared for the marathon and i am excited for it. I am praying for a nice day. It would just stink to run in bad weather. So i hope everybody’s training is going good and we all do good in a couple of weeks!

Hi,
I would not drink milk before you run, though I have read that milk is the perfect post run food. Milk before a run is hard to digest and you don’t want all your blood in your stomach, you want it to be transporting oxygen to your arms and legs. I guess the 4-1 ratio of protein to carb is ideal post workout. I choose chocolate milk just to be sure I replace the carbs–ha ha! And get some protein–you are a little person, you need it. As far as calcium goes. Tums are ok, but getting a good supplement is much better. I don’t think tums absorb that well. I get coral calcium with vit D and magnesium. At your age and with the running you do a good calcium supplement is really important. I didn’t really take calcium until I hit 30 and I guess I missed my window of opportunity to store it and build bone. I have had stress fractures too; so don’t be like me ok? If your 10 miler went well, I think you should feel pretty confident for the race. Try to have a good diet and sleep from now until the race, but don’t beat yourself up about slacking the last week–everybody does. But the last two weeks you don’t want to be running on empty calories.
