Hi,

I would not drink milk before you run, though I have read that milk is the perfect post run food. Milk before a run is hard to digest and you don't want all your blood in your stomach, you want it to be transporting oxygen to your arms and legs. I guess the 4-1 ratio of protein to carb is ideal post workout. I choose chocolate milk just to be sure I replace the carbs--ha ha! And get some protein--you are a little person, you need it. As far as calcium goes. Tums are ok, but getting a good supplement is much better. I don't think tums absorb that well. I get coral calcium with vit D and magnesium. At your age and with the running you do a good calcium supplement is really important. I didn't really take calcium until I hit 30 and I guess I missed my window of opportunity to store it and build bone. I have had stress fractures too; so don't be like me ok? If your 10 miler went well, I think you should feel pretty confident for the race. Try to have a good diet and sleep from now until the race, but don't beat yourself up about slacking the last week--everybody does. But the last two weeks you don't want to be running on empty calories.
