My grandparents were around when the holocaust was going on. But at the starting point of the holocaust they weren’t living in america yet. In 1939, my grandparents moved from Norway to america. Before they moved my grandpa lived in Swedan, and my grandma lived in Norway. When they arrived in america they weren’t americans yet. But they didn’t really know about the holocaust when they lived in america, only the starting point. But they were around during the holocaust period. I think one thing that our century won’t have to deal again with is the holocaust. I say this because the people that survived the holocaust tells their story, and always say, “lets try not to have this happen to us again.” Our new century is more open up to say what we believe in. Definitley the United States. United States have rights to speak our minds, and try to keep our country free. Everyone in the world knows what happen during the holocaust period. To me that was a terrible event at that time in the world. I might not never really known who my grandparents were; but stories I heard from family in duluth and overseas they seemed like great people.

” It follows that once marriage is redefined to accomodate same-sex couples, that change cannot help but lock in and reinforce the very cultural separation between marriage and parenthood that makes gay marriage conceivable to begin with.”
I think this quote is trying to tell his readers that once the amendment of marriage change, that all families are going to change. To me change is a great thing. Not everyone has to be the same, if your different go ahead and be unique.
I think this essay is trying to tell his readers that the public considering gay marriage to the amendment that families, and the world will change.
The writer’s point of this essay is that all families have some emotion moments. just because you have no father in the picture or from a broken home. It dosen’t mean that they will more likely become a gay couple. All those facts about no father in the picture, from a broken home, and so on dosen’t mean a thing. That’s all false information.

“Convinced by the media and popular culture to believe that, as women, they be loved and respected they turned to dieting as a means of personal fullfillment and self-definition.”
I chose this quote because it shows how the world is today with the media and the “popular” culture. I also chose this because it shows how some people find attentiong through dieting. The media thinks sex sells but why whould you want to look extremely thin like Nicole Ritchie. Its sad about the women that are dieting so badly that they end up being ill and going to a hospital. I think its better off being you, and no one else. Also I think you can diet but there’s a point. You should only diet a fewpounds a day, but no starving or any of the dangerous dieting.
“Sexually charged images of women in the media are not the only cause of this continuing problem, but they certainly play a central role.”
I chose this as the main idea of this essay. This essay shows what the media thinks of women, and it shows how its the main problem today.

If i had to compare myself to a superhero, i think that would be wonder woman. I like helping others when they need some assistance like wonder woman does. I often help my friends when they need some advice; and I also take their advice when I need someone’s assistance instead of mine. One thing wonder woman and I are different from each other is our jobs. I am not like wonder woman in that deparment. I am a full-time student, who is balancing two jobs, and keeping my grades up to graduate by 2009. Wonder woman is a superhero, who fights crime, put the criminals in jail, and who is really brave. One thing wonder woman has which i don’t have is a invisible jet. But sometimes I believe I am invisible, but that never works out. I usually keep walking untill I hit a wall that makes me stop moving, and I usually get a bruise from that. One thing wonder woman and I have in common is that we have our own skills. She is a athletic superhero, and I am an average girl who is making a life for herself.

“But as a seventh grader struggling to make the cut in a tough Atlanta grammar school, all it took was a dare.” Why did I chose this quote? I chose this quote because you can tell what the story is going to be about. Also I chose this quote because everyone struggles as a seventh grader, so you can relate to the character. I think this essay is important to read because everyone deals with peer pressure, and you can relate to it. I think if you can relate what you read, its easier to understand. I think the writer’s point is that peer pressure is for all kinds of students. Even the smart student even gives in. You don’t have to be the normal average student to give in peer pressure, you can even be a genius to give in peer pressure. You just have to stick up for yourself and not to give in.
