Comparison/Contrast
During this past semester it has been a challenged. Coming from Writing One and Two, I wasn’t quite sure to expect. But I did know what kind of teacher to expect. I knew he was funny guy, his expectations, and what kind of teacher he is. What I knew to expect was his grading, homework, and what his role is in the classroom.
One homework assignment that was challenging for me was writing the persuasive essay. It wasn’t hard to pick a movie that every college student should see. The movie I picked was Supersize Me, the only reason I picked this movie was because we could all learn to eat better, after watching this movie. What was hard about this subject was to have enough information to write about throughout the essay, and to have an opposition side to the essay too. See I am a person that doesn’t like to argue with anyone. I enjoy listening to your point of view, but if I have something to say I will tell you about my opinion.
During all of the essays we’ve wrote I’ve notice a few errors that I need to work on. Throughout the essays, I’ve notice that I am rusty on comma splices and deciding on which words go where. One big error that I need to work on is my past tense words, and how I like to repeat the same words over. The last and major error that I need to improve on is deciding which paragraph should leave the essay, and keep in mind am I explaining enough information for the reader to understand what I am trying to say.
One major role that helped my essays was the peer reviews. I have to say that I am not the best writer, but I do have some strengths. The way peer review helped me was with some of my major mistakes. Some of the major mistakes were my past tense words, words that I should stop mentioning, and which topics that I should rephrase. I have to say that without the peer reviews I would have not gotten the grade that I received. The group that I had helped me a lot. My group would give me suggestions and advice that I should follow. I remember when Jodie peer reviewed one of my papers she told me, that I shouldn’t use the word things in my paper. After she mentions that to me, I slowly stop using that word in my essays. As you can tell, I still use it but not as much though.
Overall, this semester has been successful. I’ve learned how to write better college papers, and using the right words. I’ve noticed my strengths and weaknesses. Each time I write a paper, I am going to keep in mind what I’ve learned throughout all the essays and the peer reviews.
