Beerfest
Beerfest is a movie that takes two normal guys and transforms them into competitive drinkers. They stumble across a secret event known as Beerfest, while visiting Germany to spread their grandfather’s ashes. After being humiliated at Beerfest by the German team, the two brothers (Todd and Jan) return home to assemble a beer guzzling team of their own to compete for next years competition. Despite the name and plot of the movie it really has some good points and values to it. One of the strong points to make is that you should never consider yourself out. Beerfest also has a way of implying that you should do what makes you happy in life, and don’t worry what other people think. Finally Beerfest reminds me of just a normal college student’s life.
During the movie the American team struggles to find perfection at drinking beer. They are constantly being harassed by the champion German team. The German team actually comes to their bar in America just to cause trouble. Throughout the whole movie they encounter different levels of obstacles, but always seem to come out on top. For example, one of their team members actually drowns in a huge tank of beer, and when they are just about ready to give up on the competition their sprits are lifted when his twin brother shows up to help them finish what they had started. Todd and Jan are really determined to win and become Beerfest champions.
Another really good point of Beerfest is that even under all this pressure from the German team and their own life, they continue to do what makes them happy. The team is hit hard when one of the member’s loses his job when he makes a half monkey half frog species instead of just a normal frog. Despite the lose of his job he decides to do what makes him happy and continues to train for the big competition. Its really something when people continue to go for their dreams after taking a sudden hit like that. I think that doing what you really want to do in life and being happy should be top priority. Life is just too short to be wasted by being unhappy constantly.
Beerfest does a really good job of setting up an example of a normal student’s college life. When I think of college life, of course I think about the parties and having a good time. Todd and Jan are not in college, but it almost seems like they are by the way they act. The movie has some really funny scenes that involve pranks that normally college students would do. People may argue that Beerfest may not be a serious enough topic for a college classroom, but like I said above, Beerfest has some good solid moral points to it. Todd and Jan really show us the dedication everyone should have in this world.
In conclusion Beerfest is a must see for all students that are currently or have previously experienced college life. The movie has good moral points, despite its name and plot, like never to give up and you will find a way to succeed and also to do whatever makes you happy in life.
