Turnaround time
Rubric standard V.3 states: Clear standards are set for instructor response and availability (turnaround time for email, grades posted, etc.)
Studentswant clear information about how quickly grades will be posted after coursework has been submitted. Before I started taking classes online, I didn’t think much about this standard. I put a statement in my syllabus that said I’d have coursework graded and scores posted no later than one week after the submission date. That meets the standard.
As an online student, however, I’m finding that I log-in to my class JUST to see whether or not a paper has been graded or a quiz score has been posted–sometimes several times a day. To prevent my students from doing the same, I’ve started posting on the course homepage when I plan to have grades posted. Not only do students appreciate this, but it serves as an extra motivator to me to get coursework graded. Win-win! BEING an online student is definitely helping me to improve the online courses I teach!
