Rich text format, please!

Many of my students are nowusing Windows Vista, which I understand is pretty impressive to use. The problem I’ve run into is when assignments are saved as word documents in Vista, they become impossible for anyone without Vista to open (.docx). I do inform my students in several areas of my courses that theymust save their assignments in rich text format (.rtf). Many students, however, are not familiar with how to do this. The good folks at the LSC Student Technology Center have put together an excellent website explaining, through both words and pictures, how to save documentsin rich text format. Hooray! I’ve decided to incorporate this web addressinto all my classes from day one of each semester: http://www.lsc.edu/StudentTechnologyCenter/savertf.pdf

I love time-savers!

Hi Susan,
In addition to instructions for saving as RTF, you probably also want to have the Microsoft Office compatibility pack. That allows us to open a Word 2007 (.docx) document using an older version of Word. Here is the link:

I am taking medical terminology on line and nobody can show me what I’m doing wrong. The teacher states that she has unlocked and resetted the assignments, but she can’t get into them because I’m not saving them under rich text formatting which I have went to that box before. That process worked for the other assignments but she still gives me a zero. Give some feedback tips.!!!Happy 4th

If you’ve followed the instructions in the post step-by-step and are still not having luck, I would recommend you contact the LSC HelpDesk. They are wonderful and will walk you through the process.
