In the News
One ofthe many benefits of teaching online is that we have thewealth of informationof the internet at our fingertips. As instructors, we try to keep up with the latest research in our subject areas and share that with our students in meaningful ways. One relatively easy way to expose students to the latest news is to create an “In the News” forum in our classroom discussion area. I teach a personal wellness class and, therefore, title this forum “Wellness in the News”. When I come across information I’d like to share with students, I provide a brief summary of it, along with the link to the original article. I invite students to respond to the posting and encourage them to post their own news, as well. This can be a really good way to teach students the difference between credible, science-basednews (what is the source of the information?) and misinformation/quackery.
