Lake Superior College student Jess Randby is this year’s first place winner of the Car Care Council Women’s Board Scholarship. The program’s scholarships are awarded to female students who are pursuing education to prepare them for a career in the automotive field.

Randby is a second year student pursuing an associate of applied science degree in LSC’s Automotive Technician program.
In addition to a $2,500 scholarship, Randby also wins an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, to attend the Automotive After Products Expo (AAPEX) and the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (SEMA) later this year. She will be recognized for her award at a reception while in Las Vegas.
Randby is a resident of Duluth and a 2007 graduate of Duluth East High School. She also attended the Duluth Secondary Technical Center’s (STC) Automotive program and completed Automotive Youth Education System testing. Both LSC and STC are National Automotive Technician Education Foundation certified programs, which allows credit transfer between secondary schools and post-secondary education.

(Duluth, Minn.) – The third annual Lake Superior College “Thrill on the Hill” Fund Run for runners and walkers will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2.
The “Thrill on the Hill” walk/run traverses a beautiful course through the neighborhoods surrounding Lake Superior College and showcases vistas of the Duluth Harbor and St. Louis Bay. The racecourse includes parts of the LSC campus, Trinity and Hutchinson Roads, and the Piedmont Ski Trails.
The event includes a 5k run/walk and a 10k hybrid run which features a half road/half trail run. A Husky Dash kid’s race is free for kids ages ten and under and starts at 11:30 a.m. The race is organized by the Lake Superior College Foundation and the LSC Alumni Association.
The early registration fee is $20; Race day registration is $25; the Kids Race is free. The first 250 entrants will receive a “Thrill on the Hill” T-shirt. Race packets will be available from 8-9 a.m. in the Lake Superior College main concourse. A free post-race meal for participants will be provided by Upper Lakes Foods. All race proceeds will benefit the Lake Superior College Foundation’s general scholarship fund.

President Kirk Ilenda, Construction Specifications Institute – Twin Ports Chapter, recently presented the Lake Superior College (LSC) Foundation with a check for $2,500. The donation will add to the Construction Specifications Institute Scholarship Fund, an endowed fund that provides scholarships for LSC students enrolled in architectural drafting, building construction, commercial and residential wiring and computer-aided design engineering.
The Construction Specifications Institute is an organization made up of design professionals, contractors and suppliers. Its primary goal is improved communication regarding design documents. The organization established the scholarship fund in 2000 and has made contributions to it every year since. During that time, the fund has grown to more than $25,000.
“The Construction Specifications Institute has made a long-term commitment to support our student scholarship program,” LSC president Kathleen Nelson explained. “We are grateful for their ongoing support.”

(Duluth, Minn.) — LSC student Selena Mattson has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. Mattson is originally from Proctor, Minnesota.
Through the Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program, the Foundation awards a total of 400 scholarships annually to students attending higher education institutions granting two-year degrees. All recipients have demonstrated academic success and participated in community service within the past twelve months. The Coca-Cola Two-year Scholarship Program is made possible with funding from the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation. The late Joseph B. Whitehead was one of the original bottles of Coca-Cola.
