Introductory Essay
College comp, the one class I never looked forward to. When I first signed up for college I wanted to do the least amount of math and English. It turns out my program needs comp, so I had to take just once. I soon learned that I really like Comp, I don’t know if it is because I’ve grown to be interested in improving myself or the teacher that made me like the class.
There are many things I have learned in Dalager’s comp class. For example, I learned about different types of papers I can write like classification or cause and effect. I learned many different ways to make a point, and how to keep the reader interested in my paper. I had a few road bumps on my journey through college comp. For example, I tend to start sentences with incorrect words like “But” or “And.” I did also put in and leave out little words. I often had messy papers because I rushed through them and didn’t proofread. I chose topics that I could closely relate to. For example, I wrote papers about my favorite movie, Black Bear, and my child memories. My favorite paper to write was my “Bazooka Joe” paper. I feel that paper was written well and it was fun to revisit those things I did when I was a kid. My least favorite paper is the one about MTV. I really can’t explain why, I just don’t feel it is a very good paper. The processes that work best for me was the peer review. It helped a lot to have four different people review your paper.
I was going into college comp thinking it was going to be my worst class. As it turns out, I really enjoyed my comp class. One thing I did was go into the class ready to learn something new, and I did. I now have new skills that I will be able to use in the future. So I do believe I have improved myself as a writer all thanks to comp….and Dalager.
You know, Dalager reemed me on the “but” and “and” at the beginning of the sentence too. I tend to write the way I talk, and I have a habit of starting off lines like that.
