American History X

I think this was a wonderful movie to watch in class.  I mean sure it was all violent and there was a lot of strong language, it served a great purpose.  It truly sends a positive message overall.  We all learned a bit about racism from the movie.  It shows us that there are lots of people of many different origins, we just all have to find a way to get a long.  Violence and gangs and all that junk are not positive steps in getting rid a racism.  In big cities like where the movie takes place, everybody has to be willing to share their neighborhoods and parks and stores.

Societal Suicide

I also have mixed feelings about this essay too.  I am not sure that it is true for every kid who grows up not having a father figure or someone like that will end up in Jail or have a kid while still an adolescent.  I also am not sure what my position on Gay marriages is.  I am not neccisarily for it but I think people with stronger opinions on this topic would have more substantial explanations as to why some of these facts are presented and if they are all true.  I personally don’t think they are all true but I really don’t think it seems right to say that a lot of kids have troubled lives because they grew up with out a dad or mom, because their parents were Gay.

Desecration

I am not really sure how I feel about this essay.  I don’t like the fact that it talks about people born here are taking for granted their citizenship.  We were born here, it makes sence that someone trying to gain citizenship should have to study parts of this countries history.  They want to live here they should probably know a bit about it.  If you think about it most of us born here probably do know the answers to some of the questions we just learned them a long time ago or maybe it just isn’t something we thought was all that important.

Illogical Things

April 4th, 2007 by mikaczma

Well I know I have probably done many illogical things in my life.  Sometimes I tend not to think things through or think for my self.  I remember one time when I was in high school, we had a career day where we could go visit someplace of our choice where we would want to work after college.  I remember I could have gone to a hospital because that is where I want to work after school, but instead I followed many of my friends to the the Excell Energy Center to see what it was like back stage.  Even though I had no desire to work there or anything, I gave into what everyone else wanted to do instead of doing what I wanted.

Struggling

I think this was a pretty interesting story to read.  It brings a lot of light towards the subject of women and how they are seen and treated.  I think it is true that a lot of time women are seen as sex objects.  I don’t think this is right.  Lots of men often times will pay more attention to what a women is wearing rather than what she is about.  I agree a lot with what the author is saying in this story.  These are problems that are leading women to believe that they need to look “sexy” all the time.  Honestly this kind of mentality leads to lots of health problems down the road.

Just Walk on By

I thought this story was a real eye opener for most people.  It does show that we do judge people by their looks.  It also really talked about how much fear some people live in because they are being attacked, beaten or even arrested because of the way they look.  In the story The African American journalist is arrested because he was just sitting in his car and the police thought he looked like the man they were really looking for.  Life is tough for a lot of people and when you are constantly being judged cause of your looks it does not get any easier.

The Truth about M&M’s

March 14th, 2007 by mikaczma

Well I think this was a pretty descent essay written.  It is a good example of what we are going to write about in our essays so that is kind of nice.  This whole essay was about classification.  Steve classified three types of students.  He was able to compare them to different kinds of M&M’s.  This was easy for Steve because of his two year experience teaching Comp at Lake Superior College.  Over all Steve’s stand point is that he was worried about the students who would give up on school and also the students who got A grades, but after it was all over they would just forget about what they had just learned.  Good essay Steve and it is a good example to help the class out in starting our own essays.

Spring Break

March 13th, 2007 by mikaczma

I actually left Duluth before the storm got bad.  I went to San Diego over break and missed the whole storm.  San Diego was super nice it was between 75 and 80 degrees every day.  I went with my girl friend and we just kind stayed by the beach the whole time.  The resort was really nice and there was hardly anyone there.  We had the pools to our selves and there wasn’t any noise at all.  I think it was one of my best Spring Breaks ever.  Nice weather and no people to bother me, just the way I like it.

Random

February 22nd, 2007 by mikaczma

I am really getting annoyed with this blogging thing.  I mean half of the time I have no idea of what to write about anyway.  I guess maybe it is just meant to be a way to get easy points.  Who knows, well I guess Steve Dalager knows and maybe he just likes torchering us by making us do them.  I personally think that having to write essays is enough writing.  Every Blog I have written so far has been crap, not just crap but large amounts of it.  The computers that I have used today to take the quiz has also made me very mad.  I have no idea what that has to do with blog’s but everything today seems to be making me angry.  I just want to go back home and eat some food.  So I think I will be done with this whole random blog thing, before I end up punching a hole in the wall or something.  Oh yea and I would like to say that I can’t wait for Spring Break to get here so I can get out of Minnesota.

Spring Break

February 21st, 2007 by mikaczma

I can’t wait for spring break to get here.  Only about a week and a half till I am in San Diego where hopefully it is warmer than it is here.  I am so looking forward to this break, I know we just had Winter break not too long ago but this is really needed.  I have not been on vacation for about two years so it should be a lot of fun.  I am going with my girlfriend and we are really looking forward to this trip.  I know San Diego is not as warm as Florida but it is definatly warmer than Duluth.  There is not much else I can say about this other than I cannot wait.  I need to get out of here for a couple of days.  Oh and when I get back I am going to watch the Boy’s Hockey State Tournament.  So that should also be a lot of fun.
