The Most Common Employees

Over the past two years of working full time I have seen workers that are dedicated, and some that are just flat out lazy. I work in a factory for a multi-million dollar company. For people who don’t know what working in a factory is like just imagine doing the same thing every day for eight hours. It seems like every month the company I work for brings in new people and only keeps about 10% of them for over six months. I don’t know if it is the factory work that brings out these employees or if it’s all work. The three types of workers are the dedicated, the lazy, and the downers.
The dedicated type of worker is the one that shows up every day and goes beyond what they’re expected to. This type of worker will come into work with a smile, and a good attitude every day. Just seeing this type of worker will make you want to work harder. However, seeing as they work so hard, if you don’t work as hard as them you can be considered lazy. Even though these people are loved by the boss’s, they can be disliked by other employees that may not work as hard. The other types of employees will usually like the dedicated though, because the more the dedicated do, the less the rest of the employees have to do.
The lazy type of worker is one that will do as little as possible and just try and get through the day by doing so. This employee will sit around talking to other employees while they should be working. I believe the dedicated are most irritated with the lazy employees. The dedicated will get mad because they are working so hard and get to watch the lazy employees sitting around. The problem at my work is that the higher authorities will never say anything to the lazy workers. By not saying anything to the lazy employees they realize they can get away with it and become lazier by the day. As the dedicated see that they are getting away with doing nothing they lose their ambition to work. This chain of events results in very few dedicated workers.
The downers are probably the worst employees you could find. Every day they come into work with a poor attitude. When you see the downers coming into work with the same poor attitude every day it can sometimes wear off onto other employees. The downers are the type that will complain about everything and believe that everything they do is perfect. This type of worker irritates me the most. You get paid to come in and do your job, why be so negative about it? How is that going to help anything? For instance, a guy at my work is 40 years old and complains and whines about everything. If I wasn’t one that likes to avoid conflict I would say something. This particular person acts like he is about ten years old by throwing tantrums constantly and purposely falls behind in his work. If we eliminated the downers from the work environment everyone would have a better day.
I have only been working full time for two years and have already seen a lot of employees. The three that I have just listed are the ones that re-occur most often. I believe that I am probably a mix between a dedicated worker and a lazy worker. Some days I will feel like working and others I couldn’t want anything more than getting out of that place. All I know is that I will never become a downer because I don’t want to be someone that effects the whole work environment.
