After the reading, the Rogerian method is apparently far superior to the Toulmin method. I like how it stresses respect and understanding for the other side. No one will listen to you if you are condescending and demeaning to them. Some people are so narrow minded and inept to logical reasoning, they wont want to hear you out. They don’t want to change their views because that is their comfort zone and they don’t want to leave it. With the Rogerian rhetoric, you are showing them that you are empathetic to their cause, and you are in a way trying to show them a new path. This is more then likely a better path. I think that you have to be careful using rhetoric with someone because I can see it being easy to still sound a little condescending with the person when you are showing them that you understand their point of view. If you approached it in a way that you almost baby talking them like,”Oh look at you and your little opinion. So cute, so sure of yourself, yet so wrong. Here, let me show you the light.” If you approach it like that which some people may, no one is going to take you hand and walk with you. Understanding how to use Rogerian rhetoric is key, and if done right can be a very useful and powerful tool in expressing and convincing your views on to others.
