While reading chapter 6, I learned a lot about reporting news stories. In past essays, when reporting on news events, I never consciously thought about anything that was covered in the chapter. I’m sure my writing would have been substantially better if I had. The things that seemed the most important to me was the importance of objectivity, balance, and angle. Without which, it isn’t much of a news report at all.
However, the aspects that will help my writing process the most would have to be how to set up the body and ending of the news story. I sometimes have problems with how to organize ideas within an essay. Also, when writing, I often become stuck at the end because I can’t think of a good ending.
In addition to teaching me many new concepts, chapter 6 also helped to enforce what I had learned in the past. If I hadn’t read this chapter, the first essay would be a lot harder. Now that I have learned everything that goes into writing a news story, I am confident that my first paper will be a success.
