I am in a nice, comfortable, large office. The furnishings are homey and a reminder of my family. The colors are neutral and the view out the window is breathtaking with views of the city and of the far off snow-capped mountains. I smell a warm aroma of pumpkin scent, my favorite. I also smell office equipment and paper products. I hear a light sound of classical music playing in the background. How comforting!
I am sitting in my desk chair reviewing the numbers I just processed for the company’s budget. I have a stack of other number related forms and documents to finish by the deadline. My calendar is full of activities for the month including business and family. I am speaking to the CEO and he is commenting on how proud of me he is for working so well under such great stress. He can’t believe how I manage my time so well and the company’s finances. I am looking forward to the end of the rewarding work week so I can spend a wonderful weekend with my family in the mountains of
Colorado.
My family is so proud and supportive because just a few years ago, we were living paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet. Now, we are successful as a family, we can do the fun things we enjoy and we make a decent income. We are not “rich” with money, we just live very comfortably now. At work, I am honored by other employees for doing a great job and have a great working relationship with all of them. Inside, my feelings tell me I have finally succeeded. I am at a job that I really enjoy, my family’s needs are taken care of and we can finally pay our bills on time. We are also able to vacation in places other than our backyard. I am also instilling in our children the importance of a higher education. They have their own hopes and dreams of their future and are currently talking about them.
My obituary would first state my role as a wife and a mother. It would continue to state that I was a successful CFO in a large company. I had received many awards for my services in the company and the community. I was involved in many different community service organizations. I was a mentor to children and students interested in the same field. I also helped adults realize their hopes and aspirations in life by giving them the courage to return to college to fulfill their dreams. My family was also involved in many of these community service organizations, as well as their own.
I remember looking back on my life and realizing my dreams had come true. It was a long, hard process, but it was ideal and achievable. I don’t forget where I came from and remember that my family, friends and community supporters are the ones that gave me the inspiration to achieve my goals. Life is short and we need to make the best of it.
I really enjoyed doing this assignment. It helped me dream a little about what I truly want in the future and out of my education. It is fun to see the many avenues one could take in preparation for a new career. I am aware in the steps I want to take to make my visualization mine. They include:
· Completing my Liberal Arts degree at LSC
· Transferring to
Bemidji
State
University to complete the online business degree and receive a bachelor’s in Business Administration
· Obtain a career in the business field in my area and continue to take classes to obtain a masters degree in Business Administration
· Moving to
Colorado to obtain a position in the business field in a large company.
