Week #11

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

This has been a big turning point week for me so far.  I have really decided to buckle down and train as hard as I can.  I am really concentrating on my eating and listening to my body and how it is reacting during runs.  I notice that it takes me an average of atleast a mile before my body ‘regulates’ per say and I get into a flow.  My athsma has been pretty good, but I do have my days.  I feel that the important part is that I push through them and I make it through the run.  I am eating as much as I can right now concentrating on carbs and some good lean protein.  I am loving what bananas and oatmeal do for me.  They are great energy and sit well with me for runs.  I learned that wild rice feels like a rose thorn in your stomach, (Not a good feeling) and that pasta is the greatest dinner ever.  Fruit has been great for snacking.  Well, here is part of my week #11

Monday:

Memorial day!  Ran for four miles and then followed by doing about a 1/2 hour of strength training concentrating on legs (lunges), arms and chest ( pushups, tricep dips, and a shoulder segment with weights), and abs (weighted sit-ups)

Tuesday:

Ran 6.5 miles today.  Had a terrible run.  Had a side ache the whole time.  I feel like I didn’t prepare the way that I wanted to as far as food goes.  Asthma acted up as well.  Not fun, but, I got through it!

Wednesday:

Ran 7 miles today.  Felt great.  Had a good run.  I felt that my energy was sustained throughout. My breathing was much better, and I fininshed strong.

Thursday:

Because, I don’t want to over-do it, I took the day off.  Did some strength training.  Pretty much the same routine as above but added some extra sets and some glute kicks.

Well, there is the week so far!  Will post the rest at the end of the week!  Happy training everybody!

Week #10

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Yes, it is week #10!  Made some changes this week.  I am not going to be doing so many classes until the marathon is over.  I need to concentrate on running.  I ran the Grandma’s course for my long run this week!  It was great.  It really calmed my nerves.  I plan on running more of my long runs on the course until the big day.  I also have started to change my diet a little.  Eating more frequently and eating a lot more.  Or atleast trying to.  Well, here is my week #10!

Monday:

Ran 2 miles.  Not feeling the greatest.  Still in St. paul.  Ran on Summit Avenue.  Noticing pain in my lateral muscles and in my quads especially.  Am thinking that is from running different terrain…

Tuesday:

Ran four miles.  Felt much better today.  Pain for the most part has subsided.

Wednesday:

Did my classes today.  Toning for an hour and fifteen minutes followed by kickboxing for an hour and fifteen minutes.  Decided today that I need to take break from my beloved classes to concentrate on running.  They really exhaust me and I feel I need to concentrate on running right now.

Thursday:

Day Off.

Friday:

What a crappy day to run!  Really windy, dusty, etc.  Ran four miles and went home!!!  A little out of breath today.  I don’t think my body could relax and regulate with all of the wind and dust.

Saturday:

Long run!  Ran nine miles on Grandma’s Marathon course.  Ended with Lemon Drop hill. (Wasn’t so bad…)  Had a great run.  Took my body a while to regulate, but I think it was because I was so nervous.  Boy, I’m glad I got that out of the way!

Sunday:

Day off!  Not too sore today surprisingly.  A little sunburned, but not too bad!  That is encouraging.  I was expecting much worse!

Well, there is my week ten.  I hope everyone is doing well with their training and getting as pumped up about the marathon as I am!

Week #9

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Well, are we really at week #9???!!! I don’t know about everyone else, but I am getting a little bit nervous. I am so glad that I have such great support through family and friends… This week went well. I spent half of it in St. Paul. This was interesting because I was running different terrain and it was interesting to see how differently my body reacted. Different muscles of my body were sore. I think that the main contrast was that I usually run a more hilly terrain in Duluth vs. quite a flat terrain in St. Paul. Well, here is my Week#9;
Monday:
Toning class for an hour and fifteen minutes followed by advanced step for an hour and fifteen minutes. No weight changes. Felt good. I had consistent energy throughout workout
Tuesday:
Ran four miles. Good, easy run.
Wednesday:
Toning class for an hour and fifteen minutes followed by kickboxing for an hour and fifteen. Usual weights, routine, etc.
Thursday:
Day off.
Friday:
Ran along Summit Avenue in St. Paul. About four miles. Seemed to be a little difficult, I think due to different terrain. Might have started off run a little too fast… Did some sets of push ups, lunges, and tricep dips afterwards.
Saturday:
Ran along Summit again today. Long run. Seven miles. Was much easier today. What a beautiful run…
Sunday: Ran two miles today. Figured some was better than none since I didn’t want to run at all…. I really noticed the sore muscles today. It seems to be all in my hamstrings and back muscles. Interesting…

Well, there is my week #9! I hope that everyone had a very successful and productive training week. Take care!

Week #8

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

This week was a week of change for me.  I added mileage and increased my long run.  I also changed my diet.  Mainly, I am consuming more calories and protein than before.  That is, when my stomach allows me to.  I have noticed some significant change in my digestion.  Now that finals are almost over, (Yea!!!:)) I plan on concentrating much more on my running.  Well, here is my week eight!

Monday:

Regular Monday!  Toning class followed by advanced step.  Concentrated on arms and shoulders mainly today.  Hopefully they will be a little sore tomorrow!:)

Tuesday:

Ran four miles today.  Felt pretty good, no real problems.  Have strated eating more substantial breakfasts.  Things like egg whites with turkey sausage, even made some breakfast burritos.  This seems to make a difference for energy throughout the day.

Wednesday:

Same routine for wednesday.  Toning and kickboxing.  Did weighted sit-ups today.  Have never done those before.  Places a weight (6 lbs.) on shoulder and twisted. (oblique work)  No running today.  Definitely tired enought form those two classes!

Thursday:

Holy cow do my sides hurt today!!!  Wow!  Ran four miles today outside.  I am getting really tired of my same old route and need to make some changes.  Need to find some longer routes…

Friday:

Took the day off.  Am still really sore on my sides!  If you want to really work your abs and core, use weights!

Saturday:

Ran another four miles.  Was planning on doing my long run, but opted for tomorrow night instead.  Thinking about other routes to take…

Sunday:

Long run day!  Went for it and did eight.  It was an experience.  I noticed that on the last stretch, that I felt like my breathing wasn’t even labored anymore.  I could feel the soreness in my body more. (mainly my legs) The route that I ran had plenty of hills and I think they did the trick.  I also noticed that my pace has improved dramatically and I am very happy about that.  I think that I am at about 6.0 now! Wow!  I think that running outside has had an effect.  I was so wiped out when I got home that my legs almost buckled underneath me.  Atleast I knew that I had pushed myself!

Well, that was my week eight.  A pretty good week I thought!  I hope that everyone had a very successful week!  Congradulations to anyone and everyone that is taking other classes and is finishing this week!  I had to laugh when someone asked me if that I was planning on celebrating the end of the school year by going for a run…

Week #7

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

A pretty good week all in all. Was able to train regularly and had few setbacks.  Am quite happy to be running outside and am anxious to continue to do so.  For all those that ran the Thrill; congrats!  Here is my week #7

Monday:

Regular Monday for me.  Toning class for hor and fifteen and then advanced step for another hour and fifteen.  Didn’t change anything today as far as routine or weights went.

Tuesday:

Ran for three miles in the evening.  Easy run.  Picked up the pace in the middle by .5 miles per hour.

Wednesday:

Regular Wednesday for me.  Toning class for an hour and fifiteen and then kickboxing for another hour and fifteen.  Nothing new to the routine.  Regular weights, etc.

Thursday:

Took the day off today, had a long day at school…

Friday:

Long run today!   Only went six miles, but better than nothing.  I plan on adding mileage in the weeks to come!

Saturday:

Ran a quick two miles after work today.  was thinking about everyone running Thrill on the hill… Hope it went well.

Sunday:

Ran four miles today outside. Great weather, perfect day for a run.  Looked around for new areas to run.  Need to find longer routes…

Well, there was my week.  Nothing too exciting, but I like it like that sometimes.:)  Hope everyone had a good week!
