I went and got ahold of the whole movie so i watched it and i was able to see eveything. This movie has so many good quotes to disscus. One of the quotes that remided me kind of like another quote was “Sex is not love” I belive that a lot of people will think that if they have sex with someone then it is considered “love” even if isn’t. You can be in love with someone and not need to have sex all the time. I think its just important to remeber that. I really liked this movie. I think it really explained that life is like a rollercoaster it goes up and go’s down but then go’s back up again.

English 06

Cause and Effect

Interview with Olive

11/13/07

Olive and George are two special people that met in Wisconsin and have lived a wonderful life together. They met in a peculiar way and have been together for many years. They each come from completely different backgrounds but have managed to live a blessed life in each other‘s company.

Olive Casper was born in Lake Nebagamon, WI. She grew up on a country farm on the lake, and her parents owned Long Beach Inn. She lived with 4 sisters on her farm. Growing up she attended a country school and played on a boy’s baseball team so she didn’t really see the difference between boys and girls. One of her biggest hobbies was quilting. During the depression years she would make quilts with her mother and had them sent to a boy with nothing in Alaska. When sending the quilt to Alaska there was a mix up in the post office and instead of going to Alaska it got sent to a boy in Japan. The first real job she held was being a book keeper which also included being a typist.

She eventually met her husband, George Casper, through her parents at the inn. Her parents would have these big dinners at the civilian conservation core or CCC camp. This was where they teach boys to become farmers. Her parents often held these dinners for the boys that attended CCC camp. She met George at one of these dinners at her parents inn. Her parents would also feed the homeless. Instead of giving them dinners after they worked, they would receive their food first. This was to give them the energy and nourishment to help them work hard.

Olive and George were married in Illinois. They just now celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. In the years they were married they have gone through a lot with each other. They now have one daughter who is named Suzanne and lives in Maplewood with her husband and two children. Suzanne was raised on an 88 acre farm by Olive and George. The youngest child of Suzanne is now working in Poland because the Polish government called the U.S. congress asking for someone who works with handicapped children. So with her knowledge and experience, she went off to work in Poland, and continues to work there today.

Olive and George currently live in Keystone Bluff primarily because of an accident. Her husband survived a horrible plane accident in which he was the only survivor out of seven. George was permanently effected by this accident and it kept him in Keystone Bluff.

One thing I found to be amazing when I interviewed Olive was how much love she had for her husband. Olive said, “I was blessed to have a life with him.” Another friend told her husband that, “St. Andrew has his eye on you.” This is because of everything he has been through in his life. This couple has been blessed to have such a wonderful life together.

“And my life was put in the hands of young men I would otherwise never have met, by and large high-school dropouts, who turned to be among the finest people i have ever knownThis Quote really stands out to me. I feel as though America’s “tradition” is that you go to high school, graduated and then go on to college and if you are a “dropout” than you are considered a lot lower than those who do go on to finshing high school and heading off to college. People who serve our country no matter if you have finished college, high school or any other kind of schooling are just as important and just has honorable as those who did go on to high school and college. People who serve for our country have such an honorable and high ranked job. They are the ones protecting us and they come from all over. When people are putting their life on the lines for us that surpasses all of what an education could get you, they are out there fighting for us.

This quote stuck out to me the most beacause it’s sad that women fear him because hes black more than they would dear a white person. They are fearing that he’s going to do something to them because of his skin color. Its predjustice aganist people who are of color. Its so sad that people would even think that. I dont understand how anybody could fear something or fear someone for nothing.

Olive didnt want to meet again even though i asked a couple times. I am going to have to try to narrow down my topic with what i have. Hopefully I can compare notes with Ashley because she had George Olive’s husband and I might be able to write a paper from both of theres and choice a t topic that way. Right now i just have facts so i am not sure where i am going to go with that.

She has 11 brothers and sisters total. She grew up on a farm and worked hard on the farm. When she was little her dad was killed by there bull that he went out to feed one day. She had to walk over 10 miles to get to school everyday there and back. My Grandma is probably one of the healthest people i know and will probably ever meet. She is always trying to sell healthy products. She lives right next to me for some of the time. Shes a snow bird along with my grandpa, they move to CA durning the winter weathers. She grew up in Southern Cali and is a wonderful person.

Comp 1 06

Comparison

“I can do it”

9/27/07

I have always had a learning disability and when I was younger it was very hard for me.

During school when I was younger people would take me to a special room where I would learn to read and write. I always will remember people calling me a case, and it made me really upset because I remember thinking that I am not a case. I am not a file. I am a human. I remember telling people that I went to a special classroom when I would get taken out of class.

Being called a case really brought down my self –esteem at that time. When high school rolled around it got even harder. I had a teacher telling me that I was stupid and that I was never going to pass high school let alone get into college. I am now graduated with a 3.4 grade point average in high school and now in my second year of college.

In high school I tried to keep my head up and not let people or what they said get to me. Words tend to stick in your brain which brought me down a lot in high school. That also pushed me to try to have more confidence in myself and to prove to people that I can do better. I wouldn’t let my learning disability get me down.

After that, I started getting good grades by pushing myself. I proved to people that I wasn’t going to let it get me down. I worked really hard once I realized that I can do better. I knew that there was no way these teachers could label me and tell me if I was going to graduate or where I was going with my life. It was time to take control of my own life. I turned my life around and I began to study hard. I began getting A’s instead of C’s. I started enjoying school instead of dreading and fearing what people might say or what rude comments teacher might make towards me.
After high school my confidence was way up there. I am now able to believe in myself and I know now that I can do it. No one has the right to take away my education. I won’t let my learning disability get in the way or bring me down anymore.
