Fooling our bodies, Reality of a Veggie diet

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I’ve been a vegetarian for just about two years. Are most veggies healthier? Are we (veggies) actually doing ourselves a favor? Are we less healthy, maybe because of junk vegetarianism? For my final research paper I will be discussing these, and other questions, coming to general consciences while stating the findings of my research. Then I will proceed in discussing the most valid argument.

Horary!

Use Force or Use Wit?

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

No one is willing to take a perfectly aimed attack to the roots of their argument. A menacing wall of protection stands in any arguments way. The opposing view has the capacity to stop a mediocre attack; some even have the power to stop even a well planned and fiercely executed assault. Is the Rogerian model of Rhetoric comparable to a Trojan horse? Well perhaps it is given that it is wrapped smartly to begin with. Only after a time does the defender of views fully learn what the disagreement entails. Starting with kindness toward the views of another, indulging with understanding of the motives behind the wall of defense, sympathizing with the validity of another’s perspective, and yielding to a point of amicable grounds, is simply the best way to find a compliant audience. The Trojan horse of argument is not to surprise attack someone, but to soften their defenses in an attempt to gain support of ideas. Only once you are inside the walls of a defense can one begin to settle a tussle. What did flaming arrows ever do to the side of a castle wall? Maybe a new tactic should be used, perhaps instead of ramming a log into the doors of the opposing views guard an arguer could entice an ear by using solid logic when finding common ground.
