I’ve been a vegetarian for just about two years. Are most veggies healthier? Are we (veggies) actually doing ourselves a favor? Are we less healthy, maybe because of junk vegetarianism? For my final research paper I will be discussing these, and other questions, coming to general consciences while stating the findings of my research. Then I will proceed in discussing the most valid argument.
Horary!

No one is willing to take a perfectly aimed attack to the roots of their argument. A menacing wall of protection stands in any arguments way. The opposing view has the capacity to stop a mediocre attack; some even have the power to stop even a well planned and fiercely executed assault. Is the Rogerian model of Rhetoric comparable to a Trojan horse? Well perhaps it is given that it is wrapped smartly to begin with. Only after a time does the defender of views fully learn what the disagreement entails. Starting with kindness toward the views of another, indulging with understanding of the motives behind the wall of defense, sympathizing with the validity of another’s perspective, and yielding to a point of amicable grounds, is simply the best way to find a compliant audience. The Trojan horse of argument is not to surprise attack someone, but to soften their defenses in an attempt to gain support of ideas. Only once you are inside the walls of a defense can one begin to settle a tussle. What did flaming arrows ever do to the side of a castle wall? Maybe a new tactic should be used, perhaps instead of ramming a log into the doors of the opposing views guard an arguer could entice an ear by using solid logic when finding common ground.

“A citizens’ Neighborhood Watch on our border” James Gilchrist has founded a controversial organization. It is called the Minuteman Project. Named after the fiercely brave militia in the American Revolutionary War this man has an idea, now coming to fruition, of taking border control into the hands of the law-abiding American citizens. In the circumstance that the American government plays limp fish with their power to stabilize, and eventually stop the ridiculous flow of criminal trespassers the American public will have the knowledge, and power to do the job that our government is to frightened to accomplish. Living only fifty miles from the Mex-American border in
California. I can understand why he senses the emminant consequences accociated with negelecting our security!
So, this guy is pretty interesting. He has noble dreams, and is a pretty forward thinking man.
What do you foresee happening if the border crisis is not taken care of? I might ask, if given the opportunity to ask only three questions to this visionary. Are you honored that your governor publicly praised your efforts? And the last would be simple, just for his reaction to President Bush’s blatant disrespect of this mans effort to secure our lively hood. Oh, Boy! Do I have to pick only three?

Winter has finally arrived! As the snow plow builds a seemingly impenetrable wall at the end of my newly shoveled drive, I catch the eye with the man next door. He has a menacing smirk on his weathered face. I have an odd feeling that this man could be a murder, or a meth dealer, or a he could have sold slaves. No one knows. The new proposal of registering all offenders is the answer to my worries, right? Just a click of the mouse, and I can see just what this man has unlawfully done in that rutty old house. It would be just like the database for sex offenders. Now a question comes up; is it fair? Keeping an open mind is critical. Maybe society shouldn’t be responsible for continuing to punish felons that have already served their time. Assumed the judicial system is working correctly in habilitating criminals to live normally, maybe it shouldn’t matter what someone has done in the past. Is it dangerous to let bygones be bygones? It is unhealthy to ill equip law-abiding citizens so much that they have no idea that their neighbor just got out of jail for killing his wife! We need the freedom of knowledge.
Once the snow plows are no longer needed, and this giant snow storm is only a distant memory in the mind of Duluthians, a new problem becomes even more apparent.
Come spring
Duluth becomes the ultimate destination for urban off-roading! What is that? Your face all smooched up, brow furrowed, and lips tightly pursed together just pondering the possibilities of this new word. Going in search of just the right road to get you bouncing of the seats is what urban off-roading is all about. Fortunately, finding a suitable road for this pastime is easy in our homey city. So why are our roads so bad? I’ve heard rumors that it is because our transportation department is just so gosh darn lazy. In all seriousness our winters are brutal. We freeze, everything freezes. When the ground thaws this causes more road problems than we know what to do with. Car swallowing pot holes, massive cracks, and bumps enough to send the urban off-roading enthusiast to the moon will always be with us. Stop complaining; just deal with it.

Begin the news story with four of the five W’s (Who, what, where, when). Really, I wondered, what happened to the last W, the Why? Well that one, as I’ve recently learned reading this chapter, should come into play in the beginning of the body. This is because it is considered less significant than the lead. The angle gives is very useful. The angle gives context; perhaps it shows why the consumer should read your story. Depending on your sources the angle can differ. No Conclusion! This is shocking information that I had not previously considered. With the descending order of a proper news story, leaving the conclusion to be decided by the reader makes considerable sense. The minor details that probably do not change the account are left for last. To do a conclusion would upset this balance. For me it would be hard to keep bias out if I were to write a proper conclusion. I might try using a quote to tidy up the end, and leave an impression on the audience.
