Intro Essay Growing Pains of a Writer When I started this class I wasn’t a very good writer, not that I’ve become a professional, but I think that I have grown some. I have learned to make the stories more interesting to the reader. I have also learned to not let the paragraphs run into each other so the story makes more sense. Being a good writer takes some practice, criticism and some growing pains. As I have become a better writer the growing pains aren’t as painful. Some of the most difficulty I had was to be a creative writer. I lack the imagination it takes to be a good writer. The subjects of my stories were very hard to make them sound exciting and to keep people wanting to read on. I chose my subjects from my experiences. I found it easier to write about the things I had experience with than to try to write about something I had no knowledge about. I think if you are writing from experience the reader will be drawn to your story more because your feelings will come through writings. My favorite piece I wrote is Becoming A Parent. It is my favorite because it’s about when I had my first child and the emotions a new parent has to go through. It was a story I could tell first hand and give details to the reader so they could get a picture of what was going on. My least favorite piece is Going Back To School. It is my least favorite because I had a hard time making this paper interesting. It was very cut and dry and it was hard for me to elaborate on details to make it seem interesting to the readers. Peer review helped me a lot. I appreciated all the input my peers gave me, even the ones that were a little harsh. Everyone wanted to do well, so giving each other advice was a smart way to write a better paper. As this class comes to an end I feel more confident as a writer. I’m not going to try to write a novel, but I can write college essays with some confidence. This class has not only helped me for college papers but also for applications and work papers. Overall, this class has made me a more well rounded person as far as being a writer.

Hi Leah, I’ve seen you grow as an author also, it’s amazing that we learned as much as we did in this class. I think alot of us learned without being aware that we were learning. Good job this year.
