Essay 5

Finding Nemo is one of the best animated films I have ever seen. It is very relevant to human life whether you are a child or an adult. This is the story of a young fish whose mother and all siblings were killed by a barracuda. Nemo and his father were the only ones left. His father Marlin is an over protective father who does not want to lose his son like he lost all of his other “eggs” before they were born. Finding Nemo shows the struggles through life in the eyes of the child and parent alike. This movie should be viewed by all college students because it shows the value of friendship and not giving up on the ones you love. If you think your parents are way too protective they probably just don’t want anything bad to happen to you.

The value of friendship is shown in numerous ways in this movie. The main friendship shown is between Marlin and Dory. Marlin comes across Dory in his quest to find his son, Nemo, who went to explore a fishing boat where he got caught by a scuba diver. Even though Dory has short term memory loss Marlin decides that she could be helpful because it is more fun to travel with someone else. In the quest to find Nemo, Dory and Marlin run into many situations where they need each other. For example they come across a group of sharks that invite them to a party. Dory decides that it would be fun to go to the party not realizing they are sharks. After this incident Marlin sees the mask, which fell off the boat that took Nemo, and Dory can read the lettering. Marlin knew then that he needed to keep Dory with him. Friendship is also shown between Nemo and the other fish in the tank that he gets transported to. The fish taught Nemo many things about life and they banded together to get Nemo out of the tank so he could see his father again.

The great love between a parent and child is shown through both Marlin and Nemo. Even though Marlin struggles a lot getting to Nemo he never gives up. He made Nemo a promise, before he got taken that if he ever saw a sea turtle that he would ask how long they live. On Marlins quest to find Nemo he runs into a large group of sea turtles who show him how to get to the Australian harbor and he asked how old they were. Nemo also shows his never ending love for his father by fighting so hard to get out of the tank so he could get back to him.

At the beginning of the movie Marlin is very over protective of Nemo, but through the journey to find Nemo the animals that Marlin meets teach him how to lighten up and enjoy life. Nemo also learns his father being so protective was just to keep him safe.

Although some people might say that this is just a stupid movie with nothing for adults to learn. They have obviously not seen this movie that is not only educational but also hilariously entertaining. It show life through both the parent and the child and it shows the growth between both of them.

I really enjoyed this movie and believe that anyone who watches it will also believe the same thing.
