Essay 4

My grandmother is one of the strongest individuals I know, I admire her so much. She has always worked hard for the things she needs or wants in her life. As a young child my grandmother suffered through many struggles including her father running away when she was a young child, leaving her mom to take care of her and her 6 older brothers.

The effects of my grandmother’s hard childhood taught her how to raise a family and work hard to get through life. Her hard work helped her to get a job and earn a living to raise a happy family. My grandmother’s experience growing up helping her mother raise their family gave her the experience needed to have an idea of how to raise her own children. The way my grandmother had a positive effect on my mother, and her siblings lives. The way my mother was raised taught her how to raise me and my brothers. The chain of positive effects of my grandmothers childhood experiences continue today.

Hard work is something that my grandmother taught my mother and my mother is teaching me. Because of my grandmothers attitude towards working hard, I am a much harder worker than I may have been. From my grandmother I have learned that you cannot succeed without hard work. Even if you live off someone else you are not completely succeeding because you do not get the satisfaction and the respect for the things that you own.

Another thing that my grandmother works hard at is gardening. Gardening is an activity that she loves; it keeps her strong and healthy. The effect of my grandmothers gardening is that she eats food that she knows where it comes from how it was grown and raised, because it is something she grew herself. She also is very strong because gardening takes a lot of physical strength, in the arms and legs both. It also takes a healthy heart. Another very positive effect of my grandmothers gardening is keeping my grandfathers memory alive. My grandfather passed away in July of 2001 and my grandmother’s gardens were started by both of them together. Instead of continuing to mourn his loss my grandmother keeps herself busy while remembering him and doing something she loves. This is a much healthier option because there are less of the mental problems associated with a loss so great.

From my grandmother I have learned many things about life. She is the most loving, caring individual I have ever met. She will always be part of my life, and I do not know who I would be or what I would do if she was not in my life. The strength and attitude that she obtained as a young child has created a legacy of hard work and respect in my family.
