Essay 3
The board walk along the shores of Lake Superior is a very interesting place to be, especially when people bring dogs with them. When I bring my dog, Keela, with me down to the board walk I find that people have very different views of me. Keela is a very energetic, friendly dog but unfortunately many people do not like that. The three main types of people I find are the “Neutrals,” “Dog Lovers,” and the “The Dog Haters.”
The people that I call “The Neutrals” are the ones who will continue walking without saying a word. They don’t say nasty words, they don’t talk at all. They mind their own business sometimes give you a smile. One time when I was walking Keela a nice old lady walked by with a cute grin on her face. These are the ones that make you feel better about having your dog their especially after someone gives you a nasty look.
The ones that I call the “Dog Lovers” are those who will stop and talk to you about your dog. Often times when I am down at the boardwalk and Keela is being curious people will say “Who is walking who?” or they will ask me questions like what kind, how old, and is she friendly. Many times these are the other people on the board walk with dogs. These are my favorite type of people because they are fun to talk to. They are also not rude to you.
The “Dog Haters” are my least favorite of the group. I will pull Keela, away just because of these people. They will glare at me and give dirty looks. One time I was walking by a couple where the guy just continued walking normally while is wife very noticeably walked way over to the side of the trail, practically on the grass as I was pulling Keela away. The really rude ones will sometimes even mutter nasty things under their breath as they walk by.
Although I have described many groups there are also many other groups that you will find while walking at the board walk. People who can’t stand dogs should not go to a public outdoor space to get exercise because dogs cannot be walked indoors.
