Societal Suicide

Monday, April 9th, 2007

This essay has a good factual points to support their argument.  However, I believe thier being a little harsh.  Just because gay and lesbians couples are raising children without the presence of either a mother or a father that doesn’t mean that they will grow up to be criminals.  I just don’t believe there is enough data supporting such a strong claim.  In many gay and lesbian couples many of them have one partner that seems to act more like the “father” more asertive and disciplinary and another that acts like the “mother” sweet and cuddly and takes on that roll.  I also believe as I said in the last post that gay marriages should be publicly recognized, yet it should not be upheld in the laws of the church. Just my own personal belief.

Desecration

I have to say I didn’t like this essay at all.  It hardly relevant to compare American citizenship to gay activism.  This writing is hardly based on any factual evendence and therefore does not have strong arguments.  In my own oppinion I believe that marriage should be stricltly held to men and women ( I’m Catholic and hold to my beliefs in the traditional sence) however, I do believe that gay commitments should be acknowledged. I have known a few highly commited lesbian couples who in many ways are like a traditional family.  They should have the legal writes as many marriages do, but I still believe the “holy union” should be upheld by the laws of god.

logical/Illogical

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

When I was a teenager I was extremely nuave.  My father explained to me that the season was changing and it was time for me to change the air in my tires.  I looked at him with a strange expression, he simply told me that there was winter air and summer air, I had to empty the winter air and put in the summer air.  To anyone else this may have seemed obsurd.   I didn’t see this as strange at all, it was my dad and no way would he have played a trick on me.  April Fools!!!  This has to explain illogical behavior.  All air is the same..du…. so obviously there would be no reason for anyone to “change” the air in their tires…

struggling for perfection

I believe we have went over this topic once before. My opinion remains the same: women should not base their self worth on the opinion of men.  I found this authors points very convincing.  In most peoples eyes the discription of a bueatiful women is the same. This would include a body that has little to no fat.  This makes for a difficult delema in todays society. as obesity is on the rise and the opinion of a bueatiful body has not changed this leaves little to no options for teenage and young adult females. Either they starve themselves, become balemic, or simply don’t care what others think. You would rarely see a tv show about next top models, where the contestants where all over 250 pounds.

Society has a long way to go… If you listen to the entertainment news, it seems as if they can’t even figure this out.  On one hand you will hear a story about an actress that they claim “has an eating disorder” and they will show pictures of her showing the boniest part of their bodies. On the other hand they will show a normally thin actress and explain how her weight has ballooned. So wich is it? According to them you are not allowed to be to thin, however you are not allowed to gain weight. No wonder there are so many teens with eating disorders- they can’t figure out wich way to go

just walk on by

Monday, March 26th, 2007

This article surprised me. First of all I never gave this subject a second thought.  I grew up in a mostly African American neighborhood where I was the minority.  The author does a great job  of discribing his feelings about this type of discrimination.  It brought to my attention the way I handle myself in similar cercomstances.  If faced with a strange black man at night I would probubly use caution; however, I would do the same if I was faced with a white man at night.  I was surprised at the amount of pain the author has gone through over the years and even more surprising, these have been within the last decade.  When I first started reading this essay I thought it was being written about situations that happened over 30 years age.  Writting this article shows great vulnerability on the authors part. I am glad I read this. In the future I will try to be more awear of my reaction in similar circumstances.

The Truth About M&M’s

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

I found the analogy about the m&m’s hard to follow, that may be because I avoid eating M&M’s.  I really enjoyed reading this story! I guess it never occured to me that students encourage teachers just as much as teachers influance students.  I think for the most part it is a fair opinion simply because it’s your own.  I wonder sometimes why “krispie M&M’s) even bother wasting their money.

Could you go into better detail about the gummie worms, that kind of made me wonder.

crabby kids

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Although I love my children I sometimes wonder what planet they are from! Why is it that kids will purposely ignore a request for clean up?  I believe this is a battle of the wills and I am out numbered.  I believe their trying to break me, and in some ways suceeding.  It feels like mission impossible.  I can only guess that it gets worse from here so I had better develope one heck of a backbone.  Timeouts can only get you so far. I’ve been watching super nanny, how the heck does she do it.  Owell some day I will be old and gray , and look back fondly at this time in there lives…. or will I.
