well i should start with my grandfafter on my fathers side.  he took a boat with a bunch of priests from the old country(europe) and sailed to america. when he hit these shores he did not cast off his faith as it were, but followed one of the cloak to iowa. there he met another of the cathlolic persuasion who happened to be from ireland.  this young fancy he married. he talked her into moving to minnesota and north of anything known by most normal folks. together they started a farm and a family but as was the custom of the day he ran the camp. it was a farm that broke horses and raised livestock, they had a small fishing lodge and he even worked out as a county agent because of all the land he ended up owning.  he cleared the land with help he hired from the depression era and for the price of room and board he fed and kept many men working not only his farm but several in the area. the guys had jobs and sent small amounts of pay home to loved ones or moved them to my grampas farm.

he hunted,fished and prayed. you never met a man that could pray that much. oh was he one for perfect english and counting cribbage or miised jumped checkers. he had an eye for detail.

he taught me how to brook trout fish , pray the rosary and pick blueberries.

we were going brook trout fishing one day….i was whistling, and he looked down at me and said” i dont mind good whistling”……things got kinda quiet……but he gave me a hug…..

the different englishes she use’s….i could taste that phrase….i could feel that phrase….i had lived that phrase..

this essay was something   i could wrap my mind around. my grampa was from germany and he told me so many times about how important it was for him to learn the language in  america, to feel american. to speak correctly. so many times he would correct one of my mis-spoken words or improperly used terms. he used the “broken english” phrase where miss tan used the “fractured english”. the essay got a bit off track for me when she went on about the mafia guy visiting , i think she could have used a quicker example of her mothers “tounge” but oh well.

i find in my own life using the different englishes……if im writing for the newspaper i feel one tounge,  if im writing for the monthly periodical i feel another, then the media outlet that holds my contract, has its own slang to my pen and words. talking to a very young niece or nephew, or when i have to be dad, and the legal srtrict tounge i have to use for my day job is my least favorite but ultimetly the closet to the concept of a pure form of english.

this class is a style of english im not sure i completly agree with. it feels to stuufy and compounded with interior rules i never grasped as a young man. now to come back and years later and learn the english i so neglected is frustrating and i hope it does not forever change the gigt my “mother tounge” is blessed with.

martin luther king was right about several things……a  man  with passion for sure……always pressed to the extreme in writing and speaking…….to say -as he sez……most of the breathern have the misconception about education……is over the top….since his day…….look at what education has provided……this flys in the face of his statement

 again ……a quote……education must also train…one for quick…….ect ect ect……the balance is out of context with the reality of education……the course of psychology would be just one example in education that we do NOT want quick thinkers…….we want people to patiently anaylize…….not rash thought……he buffers some of his comments in the body of text but once agin in closing -his final quote in the article i will not retype, its just so far out of sink with todays reality……we have in this country people thinking everything………..

mr king ties education with character……he was a moral man on some level……this was his view…….in talking about education……he goes from the power of education which i beleive he was correct on- but over stated due to his passions….

for one man to try and summarise “education” with respect to  purpose……..he took a very impassioned short view..
