My Response to “Making the Grade”

“They don’t think it’s fair that they’re judged according to their performance, not their desires or “potential.”  This passage caught my attention because it is so true of many students around the world today.  I think our generation has gotten caught up in the technology era where almost everything is done for them at a touch of a button.  Then when grades come around, they expect to receive the grade they want, not necessarily what they deserve.

Thesis: “In the last few years, however, some students have developed a disgruntled consumer approach.”

I honestly had trouble finding the thesis, but I think this is as close as it gets.  An example of how Kurt Wiesenfeld supported his thesis is how the day after the grades are posted, numerous students come to him and want him to up their grade just because they want a better mark.  Some act as if their life will end if they don’t receive an “A.”

  1. Great reply to the story. The writer has alot to say, and finding the thesis statement is hard. I would not want any physics student to just get by any class. A grade is earned and how much you put into it is what you get out of it.

  2. I wrote on “Making the Grade” too and also found it hard to distinguish the thesis. Your opinion of kids today expecting an A is correct but I also believe there are some parents who place this pressure on their children.

  3. I totally agree with what Robin said about your blog I think that parents put the pressure for kids to get that grade, so even if it means getting a grade that they do not deserve they will do anything to get it.

  4. I couldn’t agree with you more about the opinion of kids. None of them what to work. Let’s not even think of any physical labor. I wonder what
    will become of the world.
