essay 4
When I decided to wrestle I had no idea that it would have so many effects on my life. I thought it was just a sport where two guys tried to beat the crap out of each other wearing spandex, but I was wrong. Wrestling has shown me how to work hard, make good friendships, and gave me self confidents.
The first and probably most important way wrestling has affected my life is I now know the meaning of hard work. I used to do things half assed, because it didn’t really matter as long as it got done. Then I started wrestling and I was in for a rude awakening. If I didn’t go one hundred percent in practice I got my ass handed to me on a silver platter. That means I would either wrestle one of the coaches or I would have to run extra sprints and that’s no fun. So I started kicking it into gear by busting my balls at practice, staying after to lift and doing extra drilling. It definitely paid off I wasn’t getting tired as fast and I felt a lot stronger than the other guys I wrestled. The same goes for off the mat as well. If I’m doing something I don’t half ass it any more. For example if I’m working I’m going to do what I can to break up a fight; I’m not going to let them go at it. If I’m at the cabin clearing out trees and bushes I will make sure to do it right and get every last tree and bush.
The second way wrestling has affected my life is the friends I had made. The whole team was like a big family. If someone wanted to go to a movie or do something almost the whole team would go. If someone would pick a fight with one of our lighter weights, that guy had better be prepared to fight the whole wrestling team because we looked out for each other. Even though I graduated in 2005 I still hang out with a lot of the guys from the wrestling team.
The third and final way wrestling has affected my life is my self confidents is a lot higher. I no longer second guess myself. If I need to do something or get something done, I know I can do it because nothing will be as hard as the wrestling I went through. For example when we have a burn at the fire teck school and it’s my turn to go and fight the fire, I’m not nervous, or second guessed myself. I just get exited and go have fun.
Wrestling has several affects on me. It has opened my eyes to hard work, interdicted me to some of my best friends, and has given me a lot of self confidence that I can use for the rest of my life.
