Jasmine stumbled down the stairs to the kitchen early Monday morning. The night before she had stayed out until nearly one o’clock edaciously devouring her nosh with friends, pertaining to the occasion that Jasmine enjoyed a lengthy stay at Applebee’s while eating appetizers. She was paying dearly for her foolish behavior four short hours later. Jasmine maneuvered quietly as she prepared her cup of future demise, a cup of black coffee. An overdose of any kind reaps grave consequences, especially when the intoxication comes from an enticing cup of Folgers coffee. A good spell later, Jasmine had yet to feel the anticipated vivification so, in an audacious pursuit; she made herself a double espresso and drank it in a matter of minutes. Moments only had passed when her hands began to twitch and her feet grew distressingly restless. Her eyes began to dart furtively back and forth until finally they rested on a pile of sullied towels laying in an unkempt manner in the corner. Jasmine washed the large load of laundry with little hesitation and felt unsettled when she spotted a dirt mark on the washer front. This uninvited splotch would have normally been greeted with a wet Bounty paper towel, but the insult it directed to the young girl, hyped on way to much caffeine, brought out the worst.
Grapefruit scented ammonia wafted through the air while Jasmine, with her heart pounding like a child’s on Halloween night, carried out the coffee’s vengeance. The dramatic effect on the livelihood of the laundry room actualized around a bucket full of scolding hot water and odd cleaning paraphernalia. Our feisty young girl, a slave to her own racing blood, scrubbed the appliances, the walls, the ceiling, and the air vents with impressive rapidity.
The prized cookie jars that sat proudly atop the twelve foot shelf above the washer had all reason to fear their fate. It did not take long before Jasmine had compiled a collection of kitchen stools and old soap buckets, toppled on top of each other, in an attempt to scale the full height of the shelf. The espresso was ready to attack its next victim, the precious collection. She hoisted herself up and carefully scrubbed the jars. She attempted to shoo away the unwanted dust bunnies who insisted that they had legal right to their long term home, witch almost lead to a legal battle but didn’t. She scrubbed the shelf until it was so clean royalty could eat cocktail weenies off of the sparkling surface, and the cookie jars were replaced without a ding or crack.
The hallmark of her achievements, through severe caffeine irresponsibility, excited the sink. This very old ceramic sink had adopted a black color in lieu of its former white beauty, and Jasmine was determined to replenish its natural shine. Bleach, Comet, Lime Away, Vinegar and a strong arm eventually returned the sinks to its original brilliance. Sadly, Jasmine suffered from a second over intoxication that day. Never was she able to complete her project due to complication and brain injuries from unwisely mixing cleaning chemicals; so the floor remained unvacuumed.
Jasmine was safely laying on the couch in attempt to recover from her stupidity when Oprah appeared on the television with a special report about America’s addiction to caffeine. Jasmine smiled smugly to herself, knowing that she was one of the few who entertained no such dependence on coffee, and the past effect of caffeine was a fluke. She was totally in control and could quit drinking Folgers if she ever really wanted to.
