“The global village is defined, as we know, by an international youth culture that takes its cues from American pop culture.” (p338, Iyer) It makes me realize how impressionable how young minds really are. I guess with media being as big as it is, it can be seen in many places at one and influence many.

Hardest thing for me to do is Peer Review. I know I am not the best at grammar and spelling and it makes it hard for me to feel like I am doing something right or wrong. I am more of a visual learner, so I really need to see how things are done a few times before I can get a handle on it.

I believe that Maggie was the one lying. She stated that she only paid $400 for 2 weeks when it costs about $70 a night on just lodging. I find it hard to believe that someone would go on any trip alone. Maggie also didn’t answer many of the question quick and was saying ahh umm a lot. Alex not have know how long is surfboard was, but he knew more about the area he was at, such as where the beach was and that there was a volcano on the island he was on. He also didn’t see a whale witch makes me believe that he was telling the truth.

The Black Panthers were a little demanding and over the top with some of their tactics, but I believe they were doing the things they were doing in the best interest in for their people. I don’t have a problem with people asking for a debt to be paid off that was well overdue, but insulting the people you are asking by calling them racist and fascist will not help things out.
“We want completely free health care for all black and oppressed people inside the United States.” (Ten Point Plan, 6) This quote I would like to say everyone wishes to have this, but it is very unlikely to happen. One, the government couldn’t take on such a burden without hurting the people it would like to help for example to pay for it all taxes would have to be raised to get the revenue to pay for a new health care system. Even in a good economy that would do more harm then good. Second, if you give one group of people free health care and not the others you will increase the tension between groups and cause fighting between the groups. Its a good idea, but nothing is free and there is always a price to pay.
“We want an immediate end to all wars of aggression.” (Ten Point Plan,
All wars are of an aggressive nature. It is a part of human nature and hard to control. Once committed to a military action it is hard to pull back, as we learned in Vietnam and now with our current occupation of Iraq. I am not for going to war, but sitting on the side when our way of life is threatened or people are being oppressed it is my opinion that we do everything we can to stop such things.
Most of the plan is resonable such as, the right to vote, right to a fair trail by peers, and at the time full employment. Today things are much different and we now have the first black president for good and worst. I am happy to see that what the people during the rights movement being put to use and that all the time and effort didn’t goto waste. Only in America you can find a trial by jury of people like Micheal Jackson and O.J. Simpsion on T.V. and see how diverse the jury really was. Today affermitive action forced companies to intergrate and even sports teams. Even though I don’t agree with some of the methods the Black Panthers used, I give them respect for doing what they felt was right, but I believe that Martin Luther King, Jr did the best job for what they were fighting for.

I’ve been going to this school for more years then I’d like to admit. There is very little I didn’t know, but learning how strict the new no tobacco policy is, was amazing.
As a peer reviewer I learned I can pick out some errors even though my spelling and grammar is very poor. I made suggestion usually in how things are ordered, but I found it hard to give a grade in a subject that has no definite answer. I struggle with finding the thesis and identifying the support to it.
As a writer I learned I can be create the image of my story in my head as it happened better now then in years past. While reading my peers’ handbooks I was able to think of ways to improve mine and make it more direct. I took into consideration the comments of my peers, but this time I went in a different way then i started.

Sincerity would have to be my greatest strength. I may joke around, but its all in fun and if I do offend someone I do say I am sorry for offending you. When I am talking in all seriousness I am loud, vocal, and speak from the heart as well as the mind.
Resolution has to be my greatest weakness. I am lazy and along with that I procrastinate, even more so when the Vikings and the Packers are playing. Even though my resolve is weak if I get motivated to do something I want to get it done now and sometimes it is impossible to get it all done.

“On March 14, I became a U.S. citizen.” (Paus, p25, Composing a Civic Life) This quote is important, because it means that this person accomplished something that most of us take for granted as in being a citizen of the U.S.A. This person took the steps to gain the rights to vote, trial by jury, due process, and all other things we have as American Citizens. The writer talks about how she thought of the past and how Daniel Webster and Samuel Adams revolted at the same place were she was becoming a citizen. As events goes on she talks about how she feels about how more people know about the Simpsons then the Consistution and the hope that the events of 9-11 have changed their attude of being criticed the mildest way. I don’t think this artical was writen to change anyone’s mind, just to give an honest point of view of what new citizen thinks about. I don’t think that many people would get angery about it, but there are people out there that would jump all over this and say its not American to question what people debate about in the Senate when they just got sworn in as a Citizen. It will make people rethink about how our education programs need to change to make sure kids understand that this country was founded by rebels and not based on what goes on in TV series.

The point of the artical was to inform us of what the government is trying to do to foods that are not excatly healthy for us. I agree that the goverment should not meddle with our personal choices. The people that are targeted for this ad are the ones that buy these sorts of products. It may not change anyones mind, but it will allow people to make a more educated choice. At first it made me kinda angry to be called stupid and it forced me to read it. It made me think about some of the products I buy and why I buy them.
