One quote that kind of struck me interesting was from The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas. In this short story, the author describes a city where a trade for blissful utopia is made for the hanus despair of a young child. ” Those are the terms. To exchange all the goodness and grace of every life in omelas for that single, small improvement: to throw away the happiness of thousands for the chance of the happiness of one…” It presents the reader with a paradox. If you ask me, even the despair of one individual should be enough to destroy a conceptual utopia society. It wouldn’t be perfect until they devise away to share that happiness full circle with this child. The thing maybe not noticed, by the way: OMELAS=SALEM O
Another quote i enjoyed was: “…the Web can encourage the attitude that you do not need to respect the intellectual property rights of people who create online documents…” I found this quote kind of commical, yet nonetheless valid. Intellectual property is funny because it is labeling a material right on something, really not so material. Its like people need to put a name on anything potentially creative to take credit in the event it becomes worth something. I thought the internet was about free information from the get go..why would one put anything on the internet with the intent of denying someone use of it in the first place? Now, this is different from those intentionally taking information that was someone elses creation. Putting it at subject without taking credit, however? (given that the paper is annointed not necessarily one’s own work from the get go)
