INQUIRY THIRTEEN

Posted in Uncategorized on November 20th, 2009

For our inquiry i enjoyed the opinions and oppositions presented by our authors, In particular, Barger Benjamin R. “Jihad vs. Mcworld: Seeking a Way of Talking about Civilizations in Conflict.” He discusses the intricate balance our international commerce must maintain should it not become a Jihad or a uniform disgust of a mcworld. “Just beyond the horizon of current events lie two possible political futures…retribalization of large swaths of humankind by war and bloodshed…The second is integration and uniformity…

4 weeks in

Posted in Uncategorized on November 16th, 2009

Already i feel as though i have learned a great deal in this class. A lot of it as so far been revising my current writing style with concurrent mla citations. That has been a decent challenge so far. It is more time consuming than anything. Its weird to think this class only has 4 weeks left. I look forward to the last paper.

Quotes from chapter 5

One interesting thing that stuck out from Chapter 5 was the author describing how to incorporate sources smoothly into one’s paper. “Weaving their words into her own sentence.” I like the use of the word weaving, because really throwing research into a paper is somewhat simliar to weaving, in a sense. Another interesting thing the author noted was, “As with any writing project, our first task is to analyze the writing situation. Public writing, however, is more sensitive than classroom writing to the effects of time and place.” This to me essentially meant that writing to a public audience needs to be a more specific topic.

Lier

Maggie was definitely telling the truth. My main reason in believing she was the truthful one comes from a question i asked alex. The question was not so relevant as was his body language. He did the old finger wipes the nose after a question i asked. Psychologically, this is a clear indication of uncertainty or lieing. More importantly than this factor is how Maggie supported her claim with pretty accurate information as to the island she stayed on, Oahu. She also claimed to see whales on her trip to Hawaii, and if she were telling the truth; Oahu happens to be one of the best islands in Hawaii to go whale watching.

Another 2 interesting quotes

One quote i found interesting was the one mentioned of jonathan swift. He once said, “arguments are the worst sort of conversation.” I couldn’t agree more, once an individual has started striving for anger in the sake of the conversation that individual has stopped striving for truth. Another quote was that of psychologist william Ickes. He said empathy is our capacity to infer the thoughts and feelings of others by drawing on close observations, on our memories, and on our knowledge of the people around us.  Empathy is an interesting thing, because its capacity is so limited. It is as though we see others issues and then reflect them into ourselves and generate a feeling of compassion and understanding. INTERESTIN SHTOOF

2 Interesting Quotes

One quote that kind of struck me interesting was from The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas. In this short story, the author describes a city where a trade for blissful utopia is made for the hanus despair of a young child. ” Those are the terms. To exchange all the goodness and grace of every life in omelas for that single, small improvement: to throw away the happiness of thousands for the chance of the happiness of one…” It presents the reader with a paradox. If you ask me, even the despair of one individual should be enough to destroy a conceptual utopia society. It wouldn’t be perfect until they devise away to share that happiness full circle with this child. The thing maybe not noticed, by the way: OMELAS=SALEM O

Another quote i enjoyed was: “…the Web can encourage the attitude that you do not need to respect the intellectual property rights of people who create online documents…” I found this quote kind of commical, yet nonetheless valid. Intellectual property is funny because it is labeling a material right on something, really not so material. Its like people need to put a name on anything potentially creative to take credit in the event it becomes worth something. I thought the internet was about free information from the get go..why would one put anything on the internet with the intent of denying someone use of it in the first place? Now, this is different from those intentionally taking information that was someone elses creation. Putting it at subject without taking credit, however? (given that the paper is annointed not necessarily one’s own work from the get go)

FREE RITE-ING

I was thinking somewhere among the lines of a paper on the benefits of smoking. Actually, its more of a: im definitely going to write on this topic. I hear too much about the negative expenses of smoking on the body. WHATABOUT THE POSITIVE??? Did u know smoking can reduce your chance of getting parkinsons? I didnt either, but im pretty sure i heard it somewhere..In any case, citing false medical journals and the like seems to be the purogative. My agenda is filled with interviews that didnt happen and references that dont (or at least shouldn’t) exist. I believe by the end of this paper you will want to pick up a cigarette. Not because i convinced you to start smoking, but because your brain will be so suppressed and annihilated from the paper that the need to relieve stress through smoking will overwhelm your other senses.

LSC: LEARNING STILL COUNTS

Posted in Uncategorized on November 4th, 2009

What i have come to find through the peer review process was nothing staggering, about LSC anyway..LSC is like any community college; it is filled with regulation, attentiveness to grades, and a smoking ban. As a peer reviewer i had learned that i may have little eye for grammatical errors, but i can always offer solutions into making a sentence more logical. I find this ironic because my own sentences are usually filled with logic and structural errors. It was only until comp 1 did i begin perfecting this art of organization. Aside from that, i have learned through this process of multiple ways to improve on my writing. I think i will probably end up struggling with documentation, as many do.

Strength and weakness

Posted in Uncategorized on November 2nd, 2009

There are several components to walking around with pseudo self-awareness. By this, i simply mean being able to think. One happens to be recognition of things we know to be fundamental in our moral character. Of Franklin’s list, i have come to see that a strength i adhere to is sincerity. This was my favorite inparticular, mostly because i have found it pointless (time and time again) to only patronize and pseudo relate to those with genuine issues. Of his list i have found that my weakness lies in tranquility. I find it hard to uphold contentness from time to time. My mind is always moving and onto new things, so finding this peace of mind is a slightly more difficult task. YES, i see value in keeping track of these behaviors, for these are the ones that give us an inate human experience. What is the fun in being a corrupt person? It is far more challenging to master the various aspects of being a “righteous” person.
