Still Running

5 05 2008

Well its been a while since the half and im happy to say that the pain did not lead me to hate running and everything associated with it.  BUT ITS SPRINGTIME!!!!!  Which means the beginning of mountain bike season.  I’ve been spending some time helping set up a sweet new course in the Lebanon bike course.  Though I wont compare going through this course to running a half, the workout is pretty intense with some log step up ladders, bridges and jumps, not to mention some intense climbs and steep drops.  If I do decide to do another half marathon I need to get under 2 hours.  In the end I would like to do a 4 hour marathon but I do not see myself doing that in the near future.  Right now I’m excited to enter and try to get in the Mount Marathon run in Alaska where I will be staying this summer.  The run is only 1.5 miles up and the same back down but I guess its really fun and tiring since you’r racing up a mountain and trying not to crash on your way back down.

Hey,

Great to hear you are feeling good post half and gearing up for other ventures this spring. You should plan a marathon. To do it right, you need 6 mos of specific training and at least a year of running and being active . You have the first 6 mos in nearly–now you could pick a race this winter or coming spring and start to get ready. The marathon is a totally different animal than the half. You can’t fudge on the training at all. You have to be super fit just to get through it and your long runs in or 20 miles or more. I’m excited for you that the half has got you thinking about what is possible with more training and time on your legs.
