College Composition

Reflection Essay

My Semester

This semester in college composition I feel I have really learned a few things about writing essays. Even though sometimes it got a little overwhelming having to write essays for this class and another, I really enjoyed it. I learned to use a thesis statement, I learned a bunch of things that benefited me in other classes, I learned to use peer review, and I learned how to work the whole online class situation.

I have definitely learned to use a thesis statement through this class. Before I never really knew or thought about what a thesis statement was. I was kind of aware what it was, but I wasn’t exactly positive. Now I have definitely know and have had tons of practice using one. When I start to write an essay I now think of what maybe my thesis statement might be or is or how to improve it. I never did that before.

When I am in my College English class and my teacher is talking about essays, I feel like I already know all that stuff because I already learned it in College Composition. It is weird how similar, but yet so different the two classes are.

I have also learned that peer reviewing can be very helpful. I can read other people’s essays and maybe get an idea on how I can improve my writing. Or I can maybe do the same for someone else. I like having to write on a certain topic, write my essay, and then see what other people wrote. It is weird how different some of the essays can be when they are centered around the same topic.

This class was a pretty good learning experience for me. I have never taken an online before so it was a little tough to get used to in the beginning, but I think I’ve got down pretty good now. I like having our assignments being due on the same day every week, because then you don’t have to worry about due dates. You just always know your assignments are due on Monday. My friend is taking this class, but she has a different teacher, but her assignments are due on many different days and she says it is frustrating and that she forgets to do stuff. So I find assignments being due at the same time each week to be very helpful.
