Essay 1

Barnum Bombers

Beating the Barnum Bombers in softball was the most exciting event that has ever happened to me in my lifetime.  Our softball team has always wanted to beat them, and last year it finally happened.  We got twenty runned by them the year before.  The feeling is completely opposite of the winning feeling.  Reasons you may ask.  Well our softball team has been playing together for many years, so we have gotten better.  Softball is definitely my favorite sport, so beating them was awesome.  Their softball team coach has always thought that his team was too “good” to play us.

A little history.  At Floodwood, our softball team has been really young since I was in about 8th grade.  Our team consists mostly of the girls in the grade below me, which are now juniors this year.  There are a couple seniors besides me on the team, but I am the only one that has played every year since 7th grade.  You could say our softball team is pretty tight..  The players in softball are all friends.  We don’t have any drama with our team.  It is always a drama free season in softball.  I love it.

Softball is hands down my all time favorite sport!  I like it better than volleyball and basketball.  Volleyball is pretty close to softball though.  For softball I like being outdoors.  I like that softball is in the spring, and it means that school is almost over with.  In basketball and volleyball, they are both in the winter/fall, and I really don’t like winter.  During softball season everyone is always excited for practice and games.  We are for other sports too, but not as much.  The girls who play softball, most of them anyways, would say it is their favorite sport.  We don’t have a huge school so basically all the girls on the softball team are on the volleyball and basketball team also.

Barnum’s softball team was much better in the years past.  In our area there are two teams to beat in girl’s sports that will give you bragging rights.  They would be Esko and Barnum.  They are good at everything.  The same for the boys, but for football there would have to be Cromwell in there somewhere.

Randy Myhre.  There are a few words that come to my mind such as: Talented coach, basketball, softball, talented daughters, and Barnum.  Yes, he is the softball and girls basketball coach at Barnum High School.  He led those girls to many victories in their careers as student athletes.  He is a great coach who pushes his players to play at their peak potentials, but when softball season rolls around he acts like his team is too good to play Floodwood.  Three years ago when I was a freshman, they twenty runned us in the 5th inning.  Two years ago when I was a sophomore they only beat us 0-3.  We pulled it out last year though, we beat them 4-3.  Myhre was so angry with his team.  He didn’t even want to shake our hands he was so mad.

In conclusion beating Barnum in softball was way better than getting beaten by twenty runs.  The feelings were the exact opposite.  I don’t know about my teammates feelings, but my feelings getting twenty runned were basically crushed and humiliated.  I wouldn’t mind never feeling that way again.  My feelings for the big win were happiness, actually I was ecstatic!  I can’t even explain the feeling I had that day.

“He is a great coach who pushes his players to play at their peak potentials, but when softball season rolls around he acts like his team is too good to play Floodwood.” This quote shows what kind of person you think Randy is. Good revision with some good content.
