1-Sam Cave in Two Harbors
Sam Cave is using his wealth to get what he wants. He believes that it’s alright to perform a complete overhaul on the Lighthouse point because he bought it, practically destroying the natural beauty. His money is being used to bypass environmental issues having to do with how close his condos will be able to be built to the lake.
2-The Raising of Tuition
Minnesota students already pay one of the highest tuition fees in the nation. With tuition going up, gas prices inflating and cost of living going up faster than minimum wage, what’s going to become of Minnesotan students? Keep going to school and be in debt for their lives, or stear clear of college curriculum altogether?
What to me is going to help me most on paper one is the part in the text that says that “objectivity, the absence of the writer’s personal biases…” (page 188, Writing in the Works). The reason behind this choice is that no matter what I’m writing, it’s hard for me not to put my own feelings and thoughts into the piece. With a news article however, you must, I repeat you must, try to look past your own thoughts and feelings and see only the reasons why other people are interested in reading the article. I understood before that as a writer, in any form of writing, that you have to write about other’s interests. Now, after reading through the chapter and highlighting notes, etc…, I’ve learned that no matter what I’m writing about for this paper, I’m going to have look at my story from a broader standpoint. That’s why I’m going to do my paper on a sporting event most likely. I don’t really care who wins or loses (unless I’ve got money on the game). I just want to see an energetic game.
