St. Elmos Fire

It is hard for me to really agree or disagree with the statement, “It demonstrates how graduation signifies the end of innocence and the beginning of adulthood.”, because I haven’t graduatated yet. But i think that the statement made is a very accurate one. I don’t think that graduation signifies the begining of adulthood. Just because you graduate and are out in the real world doesn’t mean you are ready for it. That was made very clear in the movie. None of them were really ready to take on the reality of family and responsibility. I think it is the ability to face situations in life and survive them and learn and mature from them that make you an adult. Not a specific time in your life. One of the quotes from the movie that I felt was very true was, “Sex isn’t love.” That is so true . Often times many of the pressures to have sex is “If you love me you’ll do it with me. This isn’t true. If you truly love the person you will wait until they are ready to have sex.

Don’t Dumb Down the Military

“We cannot all pick up the sword, nor should we be forced to-but we owe our support to those who do.”

I picked this quote because I really like what the author is saying. We shouldn’t all be forced to go into the military, I for one don’t have any desire to join them. But we need to honor and respect those who are giving their lives for our freedom even if we don’t exactly agree with what they were called to do. This is pretty much his thesis of the essay. he supports this in paragraph nine, by stating all the goals the military has met, and how they don’t necessarily need more people just more financial support. I agree with what the writer is saying in this essay. This is a free country, we should be free to choose whether we want to enlist or not. But we definatly need to support those who do. There is a lot of controversy about the war in Iraq and some people don’t agree with whats going on over there and they do not support the men and women who are giving their time, energy, and lives to keep our nation free from war and terror. I think that even though we don’t agree with whats going on we still need to honor our troops.

CSI 1106

This accident is a rather unusual one. Apparently the driver(drunk or sober…unable to tell from the evidence) ran the parking barrier and went over the docks edge. The boat was close enough to the dock to be able to stop the car from going completely into the water. The driver side door is open so the accident couldn’t have been bad enough to cause serious harm to the driver. Also there is no ambulance or police on the scene so either this was a hoax, or the picture is taken later as a joke with the person standing next to the vehicle. The woman is smiling so obviously this is not her vehicle or boat. Most likely just an innocent bystander.

“Over the years, I’ve leatned to smother the rage I felt so often being taken for a criminal.” I really had an impact on Me. No one should ever have to experience that feeling. Imagine the feeling of being avoided just beacuse you look different. That would be horrible. The sad reality of it all is, it’s happening around us all the time. Whether intentional or unitentional people tend to view others who don’t meet up to there standards as strange wierd or in his case criminal. We need to evaluate the way we think about people before we get to know them.

I was unable to meet with Don this week because his daughter is coming, but he said come next week. he wasn’t sure what day or time  but he said just come and he’ll look for me.

Here are some questions I would like to ask him.

Where was your favorite place to announce?

Which station was your favorite station?

Did you announce all day or did you have certain hours?

How did you get into the announcing business?

Tell me more about the time you met the Von Trap family.

Who did you announce with?

What was one of the funniest mishaps?

Would you still announce if you could?

Donald Wesley Mason

schmitzdon.JPGWhen I first heard that we were going to Keystone Bluffs to interview a person there, I really didn’t want to go becasue I don’t like to talk to random people that I don’t know. Then when I heard I was going to be interviewing someone in their apartment, that was even worse. But I just decidedto be myself and since I have to be there I might as well make the most of it. It turns out that the gentleman I interviewed was very sweet and wanted someone to talk to. His full name is on the title but he likes people to call him Don. He is legally blind as a result from a certain disease that came upon him about a half a year ago. It literally happened over night. he is 84 years old and still tries to be as active as possible. In his lifetime he has been a disc jockey, a radio announcer, served in the army, and in the editing/interviewing business. Since he was previously a radio announcer, he loved to talk and I had no difficulty getting answers and he was willing to answer any questions I asked. I think he also was slightly bored because he was confined to a wheel chair since he broke his leg a couple weeks ago, so I think he enjoied the company. He was a wonderful person to talk to and i am excited to go bakc and talk to him again.

Questions?

Just some questions to get me rolling:

What was it like growing up?

What are some of your favorite memories?

Did you have special family events?

What was something special that happened in your life?

Did you have a family of your own? How many, if any, kids did you have?

What did you do for fun as a kid?

How have times changed?

What are some of your favorite activities to do now?

Grandpa Miles

The assingment was to write about our grandparents, and write about something they experienced that you probably never will. I thought about that for a while and then it hit me. Write about Grndpa Miles. I am very proud of my Grandpa for what he did and how he helped our country. You see, My grandpa fought in the Korean war. He and many others came to the aid of South Korea until the two countries finally agreed and came to a cease fire. Just a few years ago he was awarded a medal for his service. This is something that I will hopefully never experience. I have no desire to go into the military, even though I am very thankful for the men who are serving to keep our nation free.

Societal Suicide

I also would like to say I am sorry if I offend anyone with my comments in Societal Suicide……….this is just my opinion.
