We Are Marshall I chose to do my essay on the film We Are Marshall, because it is based on a true story and this film should be an important movie for not only college students to watch but also all people in general. The film not only shows the tragedy that struck Marshall University, but it shows how living every day like its your last, strength and teamwork can get you though the hard obstacles life may bring. Marshall University was a school where college football was a way of life and was truly important to not only the school but the town as well. Many of us including myself often times don’t realize how precious our time is here on earth, I think that this film really does show how important it is to stick together as a team, as friends, and family. Seeing this film since it’s based on a true story I think will really open the eyes of the classmates, and will show them how strong these people were and the obstacles that many of them to overcome. Critics might disagree with showing this movie and they might say that it’s “just another sports movie.” But  I never thought I would get so into a movie about football, the thing is its not just a football movie, it’s a movie that will educate and show the tragedy that struck on November 14, 1970. It will also give the students a reason to keep a memory like this in their hearts forever.In the fall of 1970 tragedy struck when Marshall‘s football team went on an a plane to return home after a football game in North Carolina, which was due to bad weather. Seventy-five members of Marshall‘s football team and athletic staff died that night along with the eight coaches, five crew members and 25 other supporters (fans or administrative personnel) boarded the team‘s Southern Airways DC-9 for their 40-minute trip back to the Tri-State Airport in Huntington , this was world wide news that struck all over the nation and opened the eyes of many college students. This film could be useful for all students because it shows how any kind of tragedy can happen to anyone and can have an affect on many people; such as the loss of a student in a car accident, or one that we have seen that has unfortunately become more and more popular are school shootings. In this film with Michael MocConaughey and Matthew Fox both played their parts extremely well, there acting really shined in this film, which really helped keep the memory of Marshall University in our hearts. I think having the classmates watch this film really will show them how people could deal with adversity and continue on with their lives. For a lot of us losing a loved one is extremely hard and can be life changing, “We Are Marshall” also shows how help of friends, and family gave strength and courage to many of the people who were going through a hard time with the tragedy. It really made me think of who and what was most important to me in my life.
