My overall Reflection
The semester is coming to an end here at Lake Superior College and I have really been thinking about whom I am and what I want for my future. Since finals are not too far away it has got me thinking about my college career here at LSC. One thing that I have learned is that if some area of study attracts me then I need to find all that I can about it, because I truly want to find a career that’s best for me and fits my interests. Going to college isn’t just about finding out who I am, but it is about getting that degree and succeeding in it. I asked two different people what success meant to them, and one person said that “Success is making a lot of money,” and the other person said that success is “Achieving all of your goals”. I don’t think any of those answers are wrong, but what I have learned is success is the completion of anything intended, meaning that success is finishing what you have planned to do and following through with it. I’ve learned a lot in this class thanks to Steve and my fellow classmates. I have learned that it is extremely important if you are working in a group like we did for peer review to ask questions, interact, encourage and discuss what it is that needs improvement for the essay. Peer review has not only helped me learn to work as a team, but use the feedback the students have given me. From seeing the change in my group’s essays, peer review I can tell has improved their college writing skills, and will only begin to give us the confidence to go on to comp. 2 where the writing is a bigger challenge. Working on comment I have learned that it is one of my favorite tools to use, and hope I can use it sometime in other classes. At the beginning of this semester I was really unsure of what to expect when it came to being in a college writing course. My whole life I have struggled in the area of writing, I had a tutor through my middle school and high school career, because of my poor writing and comprehension skills. I can remember there was a time in my life I just wanted to give up; I didn’t even want to try because I was so afraid of looking stupid or writing something that sounded stupid. Being a college student really has helped my confidence a lot; it has made me realize that with the encouragement of teachers, family and friends I can do anything if I put my heart, and mind to it.
