The Usual School (revised) essay 3
The Usual School
High school is a very memorable time. High school is the time when you really discover who you are. In every high school people separate themselves into groups. My high school had a very large variety of groups. I am going to describe some group such as jocks, cake eaters and the hicks.
No matter what high school you go to, there will always be the jocks. Many people like the jocks and many people don’t like the jocks. Jocks are guys who play high school sports and brag about it. You can usually pick a jock out of a crowd because they are always wearing their letter jackets to show off their sports achievements. Unfortunately, there is always at least one jock who most people would call “the hot head.” In my school, “the hot head” was always putting people down. He was a big part of the reason a lot of people didn’t like the jocks in our school. Whether they’re copying papers or picking on other students, jocks usually don’t get in trouble. Life isn’t fair. That is about the only thing I learned from the jocks.
In my school, there was a group of people that acted as if they were above everyone else. My school had a large group of what we like to call as the “cake eaters.” Cake eaters were always looking like a million bucks. There was never a day that a cake eater wasn’t looking good. To be a cake eater, you had to be one of three things; amazingly good looking, incredibly rich, or extremely cocky. They’re pretty much the same as spoiled brats. For some reason, cake eaters always seem to be the lucky ones in many situations. For example, some teachers would always treat the cake eaters much nicer than others. I thoroughly remember receiving a “B” in gym class compared to the sheriff’s daughter’s “A” even though she never came to class! Since
Elk River is a slightly smaller town, we luckily didn’t have that many cake eaters.
Since
Elk River is the town where city and land flow together, we were known for having many hicks. It’s funny that we get that label just because of our town motto. To be honest, there were very few hicks in my high school. Hicks are the type of people that go in public looking like cowboys. Even though we had a small amount of hicks in our school, they sure made themselves noticed. There was never a morning where you didn’t here a loud roar of a hick’s truck. You could always predict when the hicks were coming; Wearing cowboy boots and American tee-shirts, you never missed seeing the hicks in the hallways.
Many people say that all high schools are the same. Coming from my high school experience, I would have to agree. Your group is who sit with at lunch and gossip about other groups in your school. Everybody always says high school is a bunch of drama. Judging from my four years, I firmly agree.
