3. Peers around the School

Throughout my fourteen plus years of school I have found myself dividing my peers into three distinct groups: over achievers, failures and coasters. Every school I have attended has these three groups. Some schools have a larger population of a certain group than others, but I feel I have attended enough different schools to fully experience them all. Furthermore, the higher level of school a student is at the larger the distinction between the groups. I believe that at one time of my life I have belonged to all three of these groups.
Over achievers are the group of students who always have all of their work done absolutely perfectly. Usually they are always at school unless something happened where they absolutely could not be there. If they see something other then an “A” on their report card they freak out and think it is the end of the world. It is almost heartbreaking to watch he or she cry over their B+.
Though over achievers get amazing grades and do very well at school in general, there are downfalls to trying this hard. These students are the ones that are constantly stressed out from having to constantly stride for perfection. Also they have very little time to go out and do things that they enjoy. Most of their time is devoted to school work and just trying to get that next “A.”
The group of failures basically all drop out or never attend college. This group can also be known as many other names such as druggies, stoners, etc. They have very little drive to learn and it seems that they are not at school a lot more than they are. If these students make it until the end of the semester their report cards are usually not much better than a “D.”
There are not many positives to being in the failure group. Partying and having a ton of was about the only part I enjoyed about this group. Nothing is rewarding at all about being in the failure group. Fighting with your parents and barely squeaking by in school is no way I would ever like to experience life again.
A coaster is a person who goes to school and gets good grades but also makes sure he or she have fun doing other stuff. They go to school most of the time and are happy if they get decent grades. Usually they do just enough to have a decent G.P.A. A majority of the people in this group are very smart but they just enjoy other activities then getting a perfect score on every assignment. Also this group usually has a lot of friends that they spend ample time with.
The biggest problem I can see with coasters is that they seem to procrastinate a lot. They are capable of getting good grades but wait until the last minute to throw something together. This is usually caused by just a little too much partying that week or just being too lazy to do it before the last minute. Also I believe that this group is the most likely to cheat to try to get something done sooner.
Every time I walk down a hallway at a school, I am able to put almost every student into one of these three groups. Of course, there are oddballs who don’t fit into any of the groups but for the most part they will fit in one of these groups. Each group has advantages along with contrasting points. Which group are you in?
