“No kidding. So you’ve got no choice but to listen to us.” claims Mello of Death Note, as the same statement is implied towards you. Forced to comment anothers blog, reading the article as quick as you can to comment the subject. Finally being able to go back to your life, however this entry wont be short. Submitting the first research paper written within the class, once revised into the spot below, so enjoy.

LSC GUIDE FOR THE NON-SO-BRIGHT.

Lake Superior College is a year two college with hundreds of classes, dozens of teachers and quite a few degrees. Though while you are a student at Lake Superior College, you are asked to follow the rules and policies listed within the Student Handbook. Though most students are quite unfamiliar with the handbook and the policies found in them, when many are important and could help out a new student, or veteran student. I will be providing a survival guide of my own personal experiences and tips found in student handbook & policies. Hopefully this will help students find out more about the handbook & the policies to help themselves out and make their stay at Lake Superior College more enjoyable. The three topics I will cover within this do or die guide for Lake Superior College are how to find locations to set anchor & work, how to enroll in an organization at LSC, and how to manage your e-campus account.

Lead Sails & Paper Anchors

It is rare when attending Lake Superior that you end up without a single page of homework that simply can not be done on the spot. As a new students you probably have learned of all the nooks and cranny’s within the college that are excellent spots to study and work on your assignments in an efficient manner. Listed below are not only some of my favorite spots, but other hot spots from other students that invest their time at college wisely other then inside the classrooms.

Library: A large room found within LSC that provides a feel similar to a classroom with a few extra bonuses. Finding a table and working in here will benefit a student with the silent environment around them. Offering someone who just wants to work without anyone talking a few seats down. If the student needs to get more information on their subject they can access the massive source of literature found in the room. Rarely does the library not have a book you will be looking for, and if they do not they are capable of having a book transferred to the library that is. With computers capable of reaching anything that is not off line the library makes a valuable resource for a student wishing to get a good amount of effort put into their exam, or assignment.

Internet Cafe: The Internet cafe is a small room that is lined with computers and other trendy fashion statements that brings the place to life, having a small cafe for students and guests to get some stimulating coffee and treats. This location is a fine spot to pull out a book and read because of the ambiance the college has tried to achieve. It allows students to feel like an individual sitting in front of a computer, or small table working on their assignments. While having a fresh amount of students come passing by to make the student feel like they are actually at a college instead of a sealed off room. Its also a good spot for interacting with your peers on assignments. If you happened to forget your own laptop or personal computer, even assigned you can often access them from the computers located here.

Lounge: The lounge is found nearby the Internet cafe, and lacks the qualities of computers to access information or ambiance from the cafe. However the large room is filled with comfortable chairs and couches which students may feel free to access. With vending machines and even a few games such as pool and foosball can be found in here. Being a room that can help reduce the anxiety, as well as stress of a large assignment or exam. Taking a few moments to stretch back and rest in the comfortable furniture, or play a game of pool with a friend to just take time to breath and think about what your work is asking of you. There are also a varied assortment of smaller lounges found around the campus for students to study in a more comfortable environment then a classroom.

Freedom of Association

Now it might seem a bit scary to ask about something you’ve only heard a few words on however Lake Superior College offers an array of organizations & clubs to students. Organizations & Clubs can be both fun and appealing to your interests as well as being related to a program or class you are in. To begin your journey starting a club, or joining a club you should visit the Student Life Center at LSC. There you can speak to one of the members at the desk to speak to the clubs Representative who has a small office in the back of the center. Speaking to the organization allows a student to get a small peek into the club itself and the details your going to need to participate in it. From that point an email is often exchanged to help contact the student on a better basis with more information.

Interest Related Clubs: It seems to be were the majority of the clubs are listed, these clubs aren’t directly related to any specific class or degree, but created for the enjoyment of the students. A list can be found in the Student Life Center and on line. Wither they want to become apart of an Art club to have fun painting and play with pottery, to a chess club for students who enjoy playing the board game and want to engage with students who enjoy the game & hobby. The creation in this category of clubs is endless, as long as it abides to the rules of the college and student life center anyone can come in and create a club.

Program Related Organizations: These tend to be a bit more serious compared to the other clubs, not being primarily based on the ideal of fun, rather knowledge and teaching. Students enlisting into program related clubs can find themselves in fields where a more direct knowledge is required of the subject such as automotive where students would be learning more about the industry and the vehicles. While students in the Nursing Club would be going into depths about medical practices and work related to their studies in class. I would imagine these would be rather difficult to be created by a student, however a suggestion towards the field & career of a student may help in the creation of the club.

On-line a student is able to to see the calendar that lists often the events and dates of meetings held by the clubs that allows students to update themselves on upcoming dates. Though if a student is ever lost or needs more information they just need to visit the representative of the club or the Student Life Center.

MANAGING E-CAMPUS

When taking a class on campus or one that is completely on line you are going to visiting the e-campus. For its a useful tool not only for instructors & teachers, but students as well. Teachers are capable of giving out quizzes, tests, even exams from the e-campus for students to take. As well as content about upcoming homework and assignments due in the following days. However at first glance it can seem all a bit too overwhelming, though getting used to a few key features can change your experience on-line with LSC.

Calendar/Content The life save of them all, the calendar and content section of a classes e-campus. This section is designed to either show the content the teacher is showing to their students or the content going to be given to the students in the following days. Giving students information on their tasks as well as defined due dates for assignments and quizzes. This is a lifesaver an a free tool that acts as a planner when helping yourself out when keeping track of your assignments. Students can even add their own personal events for self remainders and preparations for on-line courses and assignments given on campus.

` Locker: The locker is the lifesaver of all students, this tool is used to store any assignment done on the computer onto a personal account on e-campus. Which can be accessed from any computer that has connection to the Internet and page. Allowing students to work on any project on any computer with easy transition without having to buy a flash drive, or save it to a unique folder on the specific computer. All sizes & types of files can be saved in your locker for future use, and storage purposes. Utilizing this tool will help a student keep track of his assignments he saves and manages over the course of the year.

Email: Is another tool on line accessed that e-campus uses to communicate with students. Managing your email often takes a lot of work because you have to filer through spam, events and other misc emails however once you have everything set up. Your email can become a vital tool towards success, with the ability to have warnings sent to your emails about approaching tests, or comments being posted about your thread in the discussion board. Teachers wanting to set up conferences or send extra information to their students that is on a more personal basis can be sent this method as well, giving the students a unique window of opportunity.

Thus the complicated e-campus might have its faults, however it does provide useful tools, and more then just the three I listed to help make campus life easier for the computer savvy students and stay at home members of the student body.

We however come to a close of the guide on how to better your experience at Lake Superior College. We spoke about the hot spots of the college are to visit to put some hours in studying. We talked about enrolling yourself in a club or organization found in the college, and even the e-campus that has become a larger part of the college then it has even been before, offering dozens of on-line classes. In return I hope you take these small pearls of wisdom to heart and give them a try, and if you like them pass on the story, with your own secrets and guides for making college life easier. Maybe one day we will have a complete guide on how to make it at Lake Superior College.

“I’ll make you trust me. And when you’ve told me everything I need to know, I’ll kill you.” foul words muttered by Light Yagami from Death note. Cursing at his opposing force in his new world of pure human beings, starting the arc of the two’s epic battle. Within Chapter Five we relate to the creation of the Research Paper and the true process of writing it, and making it legit. As the series begins itself with the narrow subject, as does the book suggest the user should have direct thesis statements that aren’t to broad. For then the series, or paper would stray off, or have far to much information to cover within a single series & paper.

Blog Assignment 10 | Friday, November 13, 2009.

“In the end, L is indeed the greatest detective on earth…” the few words uttered by Light Yagami before the final passing of the detective L from Death Note. Despite him being the best detective known to man at the time, he was unable to pin-point Kira to Light which would be the end of him. In class we had to be our own detective to find out in a mock assignment in which both students had attended a stay in Hawaii within recent years. Among the many questions asked in class, most of the students asked basic inquires that could be answered by anyone with a minor knowledge of the United States, while a few daring students asked question in which absolute knowledge had to be known about the actual trip. My guesses would have been the male in this inquiry, for the female was asked an array of questions and managed to contradict the facts several times, while the other male was more sly and contradicted himself less.

“I’ll need to appear full of confidence if I’m to take advantage of him.” which couldn’t have been said better by Light Yagami. Within chapter four we learn the power of argument with our inquiries and writing. Having to channel your texts through the facts and proof of the arguments being most important. Within the series Light & L are constantly arguing with one another who is the best form of Justice, among many other things. The part of the chapter that appealed the most to be was  the argument appealing to the readers. Many would consider an argument a fight of people shouting, but in the literature world is a very different. We often need to tug on the readers heart strings to pull them closer to understanding our argument.

“I was playing cynical back then.” says L of Death Note, commenting on his opinion on the case of Kira. Now I felt a bit cynical with my reviews on other students for their Research Papers. However it had to be done, and the truth must be tolerated. As a peer reviewer I feel like I control the direction of the students grade. Wither it needs correction for a better grade, or a quick review to let the person go on without any guidance or suggestions. I was glad I was able to catch a few mistakes, and help with the English knowledge I possess. Along with pointing out a few other errors in their drafts but beside that, there weren’t too many struggles. Though as a writer, with a few good reviews I felt like I have improved from my first literacy class in college.  A few of them inspired me to add features similar to their own into my writing to better my personal handbook.

” I am Justice! ” a simple line spoken by Light Yagami as well as L from Death Note. Little do they know that Justice is one of the thirteen virtues that Ben Franklin made for himself to better himself as a person within society and at home. One of the strongest virtues I find within myself would be ‘ Tranquility.’ I am a person is can easily come to terms not only with myself, but with the environment around me. Not letting it disturb me so drastically and easily, letting the path go on its own course, rather then trying to disturb it. While a weakness I can see in myself from these virtues is that of humility. Too many of us are not humble enough to accept when we are wrong and simply deny ourselves from the truth till the very end. I believe I could work on being more humble to people who are correct, and deserve the respect of anothers attention in such a manner. However those that keep my in line would be Justice and Moderation, not letting myself harm others, nor going out of the normal bounds and going to the extremes. Limiting myself to the true realitly then false unknown and peak extremes.

Friday, October 30 2009 | Blog Assignment Four

“”God of Death?! You…You expect me to accept that such things exist?!”  is a quote from L of Death Note. Learning that his opponent is dealing with an unseen factor to him, known as Gods of Death. Bringing me to the comparison of the Invisible man who see’s himself as an invisible force with society. Over the three written exerts of becoming and being a citizen of the United States, the one labeled the Invisible Man caught my interest the most. The author point out that in this massive world, there are a lot of people, and because of that fact the impact of himself is so small. Speaking about how he brutally beat up a person before controlling himself and walking away.  My reaction this was a bit shocked, knowing fully well humans have their limits however this guy to completely crack on a man who simply bumped into him seemed a bit much, even to make it on the morning news was rather impressive. Though for the other reads out their who find the small few pages of the Invisible man, I believe it will clarify their view on society around them, and reveal the non so hidden invisible men and women of society. For I am quite sure their are a lot of them, just we are to ignorant to realize the fact. Though any statement in here can be taken either which way, depending on the reader wither they were to get made over the article or not. Not bringing forth any religion themes or anything that is controversial to this day, just mentioning the life seen through his eyes to the world around him. Making people think about their neighbors & friends, and their friends and so forth, opening peoples eyes to the invisible people of every day life. The ending of this man’s writing being the most intriguing piece, “.., and even the invisible victim is responsible for the fate of all.”

Blog Assignment Three | Tuesday, October 27 2009 11:39 PM

” You can’t buy peace or love with money.” qoueth the girl nevermore. A small insert from Misa of Death Note for my next blog entry. In our reading we have encountered a pair of drawings that are ad’s from talented individuals. One with a serious response, and the other is a bit more comical & humorous. Though the real question remains, who are they targeting these ads at. Many would be believe a small category of American’s such as people who are on the move and shop at restaurants, or women who enjoy fashion in the case of these two cartoons. However I believe it is targeting all of Consumer America with these two ads. Since everyone is capable of going to a restaurant and purchasing a burger and shake. As well as anyone is able to go into a clothing store and get an entire line of clothing and saying its for the sake of the economy. I see the first ad as an announcement of the government stripping our right to have food, when in realitly they aren’t trying to do that. However much of America is blind to the truth and will be against an idea of taking their favorite American past-time foods. While the second ad targets the consumer just as much, saying that we are holding out and buying in bulk for the sake of the economy. Possibly having another meaning that I can not see, but still its obvious that its targeted at the consumer. Since everyone in America is a consumer of some form of goods, this would be the most effective ad.

Blog Assignment Two | Tuesday, October 27 2009 9:39 PM

” Risking your life and doing something that could easily rob you of your life are exact opposites.” says the young L, quoting Death Note once more for inspiration for these many submissions. However the matter is quite similar to one of the questions found within the Naturalization forms to become a citizen of the United States. Relating primarily to the section asking immigrants if they’d be apart of the armed forces of America, or ever have been. Though what caught my attention the most was the amount of questions they asked that did not seem to relate to become a citizen. Such as being drunkard, or other matters that relate to private life compared to a bit more important topics such as being a terrorist or enemy of the United States. However who would tell the truth on the negative questions, they seem to be a waste of time that people are leaned to lie at. I would have the form relate more to the United ideals, then playing a game of twenty question. As well as removing any questions that have a contradiction to our Bill of Rights & Constitution. For this is in an invasion of privacy, as well as the suppression of ones true beliefs if they are forced to lie to get a better life. The system itself seems rather bias & unfair, a new method should be sought out. It doesn’t seem right to be against the very rights we offer everyone who is a citizen of the United States.

Blog Assignment One | Monday, October 26 2009 1:54 AM

” I’ve never experienced the first class procedures of riding a plane alone, so I want you to come back so we can go together.” of Near from Death Note. The child prodigy chosen to succeed the dead detective L if he was to ever be killed. He was speaking the United States director about how he felt that he didn’t belong on the flight alone. I too have had a similar experience to the young Near’s trip to Japan. When I went down to Chicago for Spring Break last year, I took a flight directly to the heart of Illinois. On the plane I felt out of place, as everyone around me was in suits & ties. While I was outfitted with casual jeans and a t-shirt; being one of the younger passengers on the flight. Being my first flight also increased the awkward tension of the procedures of riding a plane, as in adjusting the chair, getting up, and getting a meal. Though shortly I would arrive in Chicago and be free of the plane, thinking I would be at home to visit my friends who lived nearby. However the terminal made the lack of belonging even worse, as I felt singled out beyond all the pairs of waiting customers, and people looking for friends and family’s. Hoping that my friends would spot me quick, luckily in my case they had done so, and we could leave immediately. Driving off to their own of town residence, where it felt like small town Minnesota once again. I suppose I am not used to the diversity of this country, when I have been living in small towns the majority of my life with very few ethnicity and types of people. It was a learning experience as well as a bit of culture shock during the duration of the trip, though I was glad I was able to experience it all.
