“No kidding. So you’ve got no choice but to listen to us.” claims Mello of Death Note, as the same statement is implied towards you. Forced to comment anothers blog, reading the article as quick as you can to comment the subject. Finally being able to go back to your life, however this entry wont be short. Submitting the first research paper written within the class, once revised into the spot below, so enjoy.
LSC GUIDE FOR THE NON-SO-BRIGHT.
Lake Superior College is a year two college with hundreds of classes, dozens of teachers and quite a few degrees. Though while you are a student at Lake Superior College, you are asked to follow the rules and policies listed within the Student Handbook. Though most students are quite unfamiliar with the handbook and the policies found in them, when many are important and could help out a new student, or veteran student. I will be providing a survival guide of my own personal experiences and tips found in student handbook & policies. Hopefully this will help students find out more about the handbook & the policies to help themselves out and make their stay at Lake Superior College more enjoyable. The three topics I will cover within this do or die guide for Lake Superior College are how to find locations to set anchor & work, how to enroll in an organization at LSC, and how to manage your e-campus account.
Lead Sails & Paper Anchors
It is rare when attending Lake Superior that you end up without a single page of homework that simply can not be done on the spot. As a new students you probably have learned of all the nooks and cranny’s within the college that are excellent spots to study and work on your assignments in an efficient manner. Listed below are not only some of my favorite spots, but other hot spots from other students that invest their time at college wisely other then inside the classrooms.
Library: A large room found within LSC that provides a feel similar to a classroom with a few extra bonuses. Finding a table and working in here will benefit a student with the silent environment around them. Offering someone who just wants to work without anyone talking a few seats down. If the student needs to get more information on their subject they can access the massive source of literature found in the room. Rarely does the library not have a book you will be looking for, and if they do not they are capable of having a book transferred to the library that is. With computers capable of reaching anything that is not off line the library makes a valuable resource for a student wishing to get a good amount of effort put into their exam, or assignment.
Internet Cafe: The Internet cafe is a small room that is lined with computers and other trendy fashion statements that brings the place to life, having a small cafe for students and guests to get some stimulating coffee and treats. This location is a fine spot to pull out a book and read because of the ambiance the college has tried to achieve. It allows students to feel like an individual sitting in front of a computer, or small table working on their assignments. While having a fresh amount of students come passing by to make the student feel like they are actually at a college instead of a sealed off room. Its also a good spot for interacting with your peers on assignments. If you happened to forget your own laptop or personal computer, even assigned you can often access them from the computers located here.
Lounge: The lounge is found nearby the Internet cafe, and lacks the qualities of computers to access information or ambiance from the cafe. However the large room is filled with comfortable chairs and couches which students may feel free to access. With vending machines and even a few games such as pool and foosball can be found in here. Being a room that can help reduce the anxiety, as well as stress of a large assignment or exam. Taking a few moments to stretch back and rest in the comfortable furniture, or play a game of pool with a friend to just take time to breath and think about what your work is asking of you. There are also a varied assortment of smaller lounges found around the campus for students to study in a more comfortable environment then a classroom.
Freedom of Association
Now it might seem a bit scary to ask about something you’ve only heard a few words on however Lake Superior College offers an array of organizations & clubs to students. Organizations & Clubs can be both fun and appealing to your interests as well as being related to a program or class you are in. To begin your journey starting a club, or joining a club you should visit the Student Life Center at LSC. There you can speak to one of the members at the desk to speak to the clubs Representative who has a small office in the back of the center. Speaking to the organization allows a student to get a small peek into the club itself and the details your going to need to participate in it. From that point an email is often exchanged to help contact the student on a better basis with more information.
Interest Related Clubs: It seems to be were the majority of the clubs are listed, these clubs aren’t directly related to any specific class or degree, but created for the enjoyment of the students. A list can be found in the Student Life Center and on line. Wither they want to become apart of an Art club to have fun painting and play with pottery, to a chess club for students who enjoy playing the board game and want to engage with students who enjoy the game & hobby. The creation in this category of clubs is endless, as long as it abides to the rules of the college and student life center anyone can come in and create a club.
Program Related Organizations: These tend to be a bit more serious compared to the other clubs, not being primarily based on the ideal of fun, rather knowledge and teaching. Students enlisting into program related clubs can find themselves in fields where a more direct knowledge is required of the subject such as automotive where students would be learning more about the industry and the vehicles. While students in the Nursing Club would be going into depths about medical practices and work related to their studies in class. I would imagine these would be rather difficult to be created by a student, however a suggestion towards the field & career of a student may help in the creation of the club.
On-line a student is able to to see the calendar that lists often the events and dates of meetings held by the clubs that allows students to update themselves on upcoming dates. Though if a student is ever lost or needs more information they just need to visit the representative of the club or the Student Life Center.
MANAGING E-CAMPUS
When taking a class on campus or one that is completely on line you are going to visiting the e-campus. For its a useful tool not only for instructors & teachers, but students as well. Teachers are capable of giving out quizzes, tests, even exams from the e-campus for students to take. As well as content about upcoming homework and assignments due in the following days. However at first glance it can seem all a bit too overwhelming, though getting used to a few key features can change your experience on-line with LSC.
Calendar/Content The life save of them all, the calendar and content section of a classes e-campus. This section is designed to either show the content the teacher is showing to their students or the content going to be given to the students in the following days. Giving students information on their tasks as well as defined due dates for assignments and quizzes. This is a lifesaver an a free tool that acts as a planner when helping yourself out when keeping track of your assignments. Students can even add their own personal events for self remainders and preparations for on-line courses and assignments given on campus.
` Locker: The locker is the lifesaver of all students, this tool is used to store any assignment done on the computer onto a personal account on e-campus. Which can be accessed from any computer that has connection to the Internet and page. Allowing students to work on any project on any computer with easy transition without having to buy a flash drive, or save it to a unique folder on the specific computer. All sizes & types of files can be saved in your locker for future use, and storage purposes. Utilizing this tool will help a student keep track of his assignments he saves and manages over the course of the year.
Email: Is another tool on line accessed that e-campus uses to communicate with students. Managing your email often takes a lot of work because you have to filer through spam, events and other misc emails however once you have everything set up. Your email can become a vital tool towards success, with the ability to have warnings sent to your emails about approaching tests, or comments being posted about your thread in the discussion board. Teachers wanting to set up conferences or send extra information to their students that is on a more personal basis can be sent this method as well, giving the students a unique window of opportunity.
Thus the complicated e-campus might have its faults, however it does provide useful tools, and more then just the three I listed to help make campus life easier for the computer savvy students and stay at home members of the student body.
We however come to a close of the guide on how to better your experience at Lake Superior College. We spoke about the hot spots of the college are to visit to put some hours in studying. We talked about enrolling yourself in a club or organization found in the college, and even the e-campus that has become a larger part of the college then it has even been before, offering dozens of on-line classes. In return I hope you take these small pearls of wisdom to heart and give them a try, and if you like them pass on the story, with your own secrets and guides for making college life easier. Maybe one day we will have a complete guide on how to make it at Lake Superior College.
